Very nice bottle of wine. Smooth and flavorful. — 4 years ago
Silky, smooth Right bank style blend of 53 Merlot, 29 Cabernet Franc 13 Cabernet Sauvignon, 4 Malbec and 1 Petite Verdot from the Stillwater creek Vineyard Blueberries, Vanilla, blackberry jam and fine tannins.p95 points Wine SpectatorbrThis has great presence, offering a dense cloud of blackberry, cherry and spice flavors that hover over a sleek frame of fine tannins, with just enough acidity to keep it fresh. The finish sails on beutifully. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petite Verdot. Active peach-gold and inscrutably, near opaque, with an arrogantly vaulted, whited foam tower, unblemished by human tears; clinging lacing like dish soap suds, tear raggedly to silhouettes of prehistoric headbutts. Soapy breastmilk and citrus rising on yeast, grapefruit pith peeled thinly, clover rolls just browning, and leather fringes. Lively mouthfeel as expected. Lime pith and grapefruit with papery ginger slices, orange zest, magnolia, carrot bread, straw, zucchini spirals, ginseng, and banana peel. Complex rusticity. .

Last of several bottles, 2005 vintage- still strong but perhaps some wear & tear. Still, an elegant (for Etna) wine, brick red in appearance, strong acidic backbone yet lithe in its medium body. Black fruits, no blueberries here, & the strong tannins are mostly integrated.I can imagine the Pinot comparisons, but feel this kind of Etna is even more unique. Has a slight petrol character, not unpleasant, reminds of a modern Alsatian Pinot noir. Nothing suave here either, but the in house aging & overall old school approach reminds too of old school Rioja like Lopez. Oh, & these sell for under 30$. Crazy. — 7 years ago
Tannin has grip to it. A mouthful takes me into a cloud forest, a knot of jungle and brush. Intricate and sinewy, like the musculature of a dancer. — 8 years ago
Opened and double decanted earlier in the day. This was my first Troty and wow, did this ever make an impression on me. The 1966 pours a pale garnet with a touch of orange but good color still. Predominately red fruited, with sandalwood, tobacco, burnt toast, well-oiled leather ball glove, and earth; truly fascinating stuff. And then, on the palate, it gets even better. It’s structured still and almost made me tear up it was so beautiful. This is a profoundly emotional wine and a true gift to behold in 2024. Drink now because this is special. — 2 years ago
Perfect cherry-filled SRH PN. Smoke blows off over the years from my previous rating. Quintessential SRH terrier show of diurnal shifting cool cloud coverage and hot sun baked afternoons. Vibrancy and brightness shows through strong and young but more complex. Well-balanced. Bright acidity across the finish. Lovely! — 5 years ago
Peach cobbler, caramel-apple, baked pear tartlet, pine nettle, sweet corn, dried red cherry, cedar-on-grill, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, chilies, generous oak that includes acorns, crisp vanilla cookie make the nose. Hot initially, with oregano oil, cinnamon and tobacco. Revisit yields subtleties, including lemon oil, grapefruit pith, orange peel, arabica, eucalyptus, apricot, red chilies, Mexican cigar spices, and peppercorn dust. Cinnamon-oak builds to a crescendo of resinous might in a cloud of foundry smoke. Allspice appears with oregano following hot on its trail. Very jammy with spice as well - my favorite flavors of Zinfandel, balanced well. — 7 years ago
Great wine! Nose of blueberry and plum, hint of spice. Jammy notes, dark fruits, a bit of spice and licorice. Very nice! — 7 years ago
A Chardonnay that sings like a classic cloud of limestone, lemons & whiffs of smoky minerals. — 8 years ago
Softest golden straw with glints of green gold. Hint of gunpowder melts to reveal a pudding-soft, dried lychee which peels away to white roses, citrus pith and avocado cloud glistening with flintlock shavings in ginkgo shade. Extraordinary palate leans hard into a soft wall of olive, evaporating lemon oils, cottonseed oil, and lime nodules. Tangerine-pear impossibilities flower, riveting the tongue with pithy, zesty, and blossoming evocations. Ginger, tea and nano bits of Wrigley’s original juicy fruit.

The last of the 2000s. I shed a tear. — 5 years ago
Color of bubbly light gold. Nose is a trio of roasted nuts, mineral, and ripe tropical fruits, like mangoes, and a bit oaky note. Nose is nice. Taste shows good long lasting acidity, citrusy, oak, a bit salty mineral. Quite light as the fruits notes are not pronounced. Aftertaste of good quality acidity and some more mineral. — 6 years ago
Boug Gloug if you ask me. Its tantalizing fuschia hue reels you in, before you know it you're eye to eye with an intellectual dressed in jeans and a tshirt but the more you smell the sexier she becomes...its terroir full of subtleties shines in your face, and across the palate, and hints of pepper over the raspberry, strawberry bliss makes you wonder why all wines can't be so beautifully simple and yet authentically complex. — 6 years ago

Pine and acid - a delicious experience — 7 years ago
Day 2 of Napa in the books!
20yrs young! This was also served to us blind and we all guessed it was mid-late 2000s Seavey Cab. All the red and black fruit notes are still present with mellowed out tannin. Very smooth and polished. Big note of baked mixed berry (cherry, blackberry) pie that is covered in a cloud of sweet vanilla pipe tobacco. Ripe & rich up front, savory in the middle, balanced finish. Incredible for its age. — 7 years ago
Began as black olives for miles but betrayed its fruit roots quickly enough, with baked black cherry, and a black plum mash; black currant and gingerbread-mocha notes sparkling on its grainy veneer. Torn violet petals. Lots of sediment, or pigmented tartaric crystals. Super elegant and fleshy mouthfeel is perhaps its most compelling nuance. Black currant, soft leather, smoke, a scribble of pencil, snuffed wick, teak, and black tea. Bittersweet chocolate remains like a cloud, suspended while most aspects fade. Leather friction.

This is outrageous. Huge, complex nose that is like a seashell maelstrom whipping on a beach. So Chablis. Deep green apple and just stunning aromatic clarity. The class of Les Clos really is remarkable here. 9.8 nose. The palate is just brilliantly etched. Remarkable purity, salinity and such finesse: Just a smile but with one tear. Grippy and textured. And my goodness this is long. Eternal. — 4 months ago
