Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 1999

Chilled and opened about an hour before dinner and allowed to gently come to temp. Served alongside charcoal grilled Thai sausage, sticky rice, coconut Thai curry, herb salad, shallot, lime, garlic, chiles. Tonight, this bottle was nothing short of remarkable. A deep golden color with gorgeous notes of squishy tropical fruit, white flowers, and turmeric. Wooly and waxy with acid for dayzzz. Stunning now but this bottle would show well through 2029 without breaking a sweat. — 19 days ago

Clos de la Bergerie Savennières Roche aux Moines Chenin Blanc 2016

Outstanding, showing primary and tertiary 50/50, lovely yellow and white fruits, salinity, some oxygen taking hold, florals, lanolin, and excellent acidity drives this into a long, complex finish. — 4 months ago

WotN. Elusive power and structure come at you late in the game for a fantastic finish. A revelatory Savenierres for me. — 18 days ago

Les Vieux Clos Savennières Chenin Blanc 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2022 “Les Vieux Clos” pours a light golden color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with white tree flowers, mandarine oranges, ginger, lanolin and just a touch mousy. On the palate, the wine is slightly off-dry with high acid that’s balanced by the unquestionable quality of the fruit. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, wooly and rich. The alcohol is medium+ but should be at all be surprised? Say what you want about Joly’s methods; his wines are never boring. I, for one, adore them. Drink now through 2032 easy. — 3 months ago

I’ve never had a Joly that was not too oxidative for me. Sounds like it would have liked this one.

Domaine des Baumard

Savennières Chenin Blanc 2009

Crisp, super clean and refreshing, dry Chenin Blanc, looks and tastes like a 5-year-old Loire, relatively rich as well, this is (I think?) Baumard’s entry-level Savennieres, and this vintage is quite outstanding!! — a month ago

Château Pierre-Bise

Savennières Roche aux Moines Chenin Blanc

Medium lemon yellow. The nose is med+ and rises easily from the glass with fresh notes of mineral stones, lanolin, salinity, and mixed fresh orchard fruits. The palate is med/med+ bodied, with mouthwatering and perfectly integrated acidity. The flavors cascade over the palate with energy and depth into a long, persistent finish. — 2 months ago

Trie Spéciale Savennières Chenin Blanc 2000

So, dry Savennieres from Baumard, the famed Trie Speciale, Chenin Blanc, color is orange, showing its age, but still lovely fruit, citrus, dried apricot, not really sweet, but solid Savennieres!! — 4 months ago

I should clarify my “sweetness” comment, since my brother @Jim Powers called me on it — I find old Riesling and old Chenin Blanc, even if bone dry when released, sometimes show “perceptible sweetness” when they hit 20+ years of age — as I told my brother, this is most likely a “flaw” in my own palate, but I figured I should post this for anyone familiar with Baumard Trie Speciale who is thinking “that dude is an idiot/clown”!! 🤔🙄😂
