Been awhile since I’ve had this one. Always consistently good.

Beautiful mousse, bruised red apple & Bosc pear, underripe pineapple flesh, blood orange, quince, nougat, hints of white peach, white spice-ginger, whipped cream, yeasty bread dough, sea spray, speckled chalk bits, grey volcanics, limestone, withering yellow lilies/flowers, crisp acidity, well tensioned-structured, well balanced and elegant finish that last two-minutes.

Overview
The 2017 vintage of their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted primarily from estate fruit across valley-floor vineyards, showing an approachable and structured style. This wine is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon with small supporting portions of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc to round it out.

Aromas & Flavors
Black cherry, plum, and blackberry are joined by subtle layers of cedar, tobacco, and baking spice. Hints of mocha and graphite emerge as the wine opens, bringing complexity without overshadowing the ripe fruit core.

Mouthfeel
Medium to full-bodied, with polished tannins and a backbone of balanced acidity. The mid-palate is rich and velvety, while the finish lingers with dark fruit, oak spice, and a whisper of minerality.

Winemaking Notes
Aged 18 months in French oak (about 35% new), this wine is a balance of tradition and modern winemaking. Charles Krug continues to champion elegance over excess, and the 2017 vintage shows restraint despite Napa’s warm growing conditions.

Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, beef short ribs, or roasted portobello mushrooms. Aged gouda or firm sheep’s milk cheeses also complement its depth and structure.

Verdict
A polished, reliable Napa Cabernet that honors Charles Krug’s heritage while delivering a style accessible to today’s wine drinkers. The 2017 is drinking beautifully now, with enough structure to cellar for a few more years. — 24 days ago

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim. Doesn't show much age.

Beautiful nose with red and black fruits, chocolates, tobacco leaf, vegetables, forest floor, black tea, earth, coffee, herbs, spices, black pepper and wildflowers.

Full bodied and soft with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, cherries, black plums, currants, oak, light chocolates, coffee, mushrooms, licorice, tobacco leaf, earth, herbs and spices.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a gorgeous 24 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Saint Julien. Rich and elegant. Spicy and very complex. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 10 years.

A great sipping wine that is so much fun to drink by itself.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Aged in (33% new) French oak barrels for 18 months.

13% alcohol by volume.

2014 vintage. Last tasted 07.04.25 (9.3) and 01.30.25 (9.3). Decanted with some sed and tasted after 30 mins. Consistent with previous tastings in 2025. Hint of richness up front, then very businesslike afterwards. Fairly dry but began to fold a modicum of fruit into the proceedings a spell ago. Quintessential, affordable BDX with a decade of service tendered out in the boonies but back in town again and starting to hit the hot spots. Lean but not mean. Strike up the conversation in the next year or so and you two just might hit it off. 09.25.25. — 14 days ago
