2021 is seemingly turning into the year of Champagne for me and I gotta say, I could get used to this. Lilbert et Fils BdB GC NV comes in a rather unassuming package but more than makes up for it in substance. The nose is distinctive with aromas of slightly under ripe Taleggio and apples. On the palate, apples and citrus with lovely, persistent acid. Don’t sleep on this. — 3 days ago
My first post in 2021 also happens to be my 2000th wine in Delectable which, I guess is an achievement so we’re celebrating with some Bérêche. I believe this is the only wine in their incredible line-up that had, up until now, eluded me. Not any longer!
The 2016 Campania Remnsis pours a very pretty, pink/salmon color but the most remarkable aspect of the appearance is the gorgeous, everlasting mousse of this wine. It nearly carries a head! Pour after pour, the bubbles cover the disc for minutes before slowly beginning to dissipate, leaving a steady bead of bubbles for each glass. Initially, the nose was predominately cantaloupe (the delicious and juicy kind grown in sandy soils), raspberry, strawberry, baby roses, and salty sea breeze. After about an hour, however, the melon notes were replaced with Pink Lady apples and the faintest smell of a Cinnabon kiosk (no joke).
On the palate, this was so charming with Pink Lady apples, watermelon Jolly Rancher and chalky minerals.
As a complete package, the Campania Remesis is overwhelmingly fresh and full of excitement. Easily one of the more fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable pink champagnes I’ve had, ever. Disgorged March of 2020, Dosage 3.5g/l. 5318 bottles produced. — 22 days ago
Sunday night I have opened the 2019 Domaine Fournier Les Belles Vignes Sancerre Blanc.
On the nose there is grapefruit, lime, apricot, herbs, green apple and minerals.
On the palate I am getting lime, grapefruit, white peach, herbaceousness, minerality and wet stone.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity that moves wonderfully into a long crisp clean mineral finish. Have a great week ahead and please be safe and stay healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 6 hours ago
Same lot as my last btl. Another excellent showing. On the nose: dark cranberry, raspberry, lemon and slate, with a soft coppery touch. On the palate: fantastic acidity, good richness, but lovely cranberry and lemon with mineral overtones. Dark on the finish, which has excellent density. Mousse is coarser than I remember, especially at first, but better with air. — 9 days ago
Nice red fruits, cherries in particular and some black currant too, the nose as well as the palate has a touch of smoke or toasted scents but still the new oak treatment is not too prominent for my taste. It is very young but approachable with fine grained tannins and a nice acidity, the balance of that medium plus bodied palate with all elements is good, gorgeous fruit and decent length. 91-92
— 16 days ago
Bouquin-Dupont Vieille Reserve Extra Brut Grand Cru Champagne: Vibrant. Profound. Exhilarating. Comprised of 100% Chardonnay grapes and aged for an impressive 7 years sur lie (many of the world’s top Grand Cru Champagnes age for a similar length of time on the lees) this champagne displays rich & focused flavors and aromas. White peach, apricot, lime peel & kumquat to name a few. Overall, there’s an elegant intensity like no other in recent memory that I recall hence making this grand cru stunningly spot on. This is my kind of champagne! Cheers 🍾 — 8 days ago
Nose has grilled lemon, squeezed lemon, light warm caramel, candied lemon, bruised white peach, distant wood smoke, dried pineapple, butterscotch candy, light roasted hazelnut and wilted yellow flowers.
Palate has braised lemon, toffee sauce, candied pineapple, warm vanilla cremé, honey drizzle on baked yellow apple, pineapple puree, ripe apricot and dry crushed rock. Plenty of acidity and powerful forever finish, a striking wine, amazing.
Cork pulled for a slow oxidation at 3h then a 1.5h decant and the wine is really singing!
Paired to braised chicken thighs with a paprika/nutmeg/rosemary spice rub, shallots, garlic, mushrooms & apricots, plated over jasmine rice... delicious! — 14 days ago
Finally got myself a bottle of one of the rarest wines I import. Only got an allocation in 18 for the first time. Anyway this is an insane bottle of Chablis. It’s basically Fabien’s Grand Cru. Nose is spicy and mineral. Sea water, hint of discreet wood. So salty. Nose is so classic and the most ethereal of the Dauvissat wines. Wow, the palate is so intense and explosive. Awesome minerality and electricity. Juicy and so pure. Backwards and will need air. So much sap and dry extract. Lime echo on the finish. So so long. Awesome power, majesty and density. What grip. What an intense wine. The length is crazy. — 3 days ago
