Comte Philippe de Nazelle

Cabidos Petit Manseng Sec 2010

Star bright yellow gold with chartreuse highlights. Inviting nose of ripe quince and celery. Well-structures, medium-bodies palate yields ripe pomes (quince, pear, yellow apple) and concrete mineral around firm acidity. Great with a wide range of foods, but especially rich seafood, cream sauces, and root vegetables. Drink now through 2025. — 5 days ago

Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay 2015

High flavour intensity, a bit bigger bodied than optimal, but balanced by a high acidity. It feels slightly less fresh than just over a year ago, alcohol is a bit more prominent at the moment. — a day ago

La Maltroie Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Decent mid-weight white burgundy, but not all that exciting. Clean, crisp, nicely balanced but with absolutely no “wow”. You have to question the price/quality ratio with wines of this type. Kiss of death is almost no sense of “terroir” or place—- just another dry white! — a month ago

Quintessence de Mondeuse 2016

Lyle Fass
9.3

It’s always fun to taste something 10 months later after you have tasted it only in the cellar. It’s quite a moment. Anyway this is even better now than it was 10 months ago. Superb nose. Wild berries, alpine flowers, intense minerality, violets, lavender, just gorgeous, also a bit wild and feral. Palate is classic Mondeuse with terrific grip, concentration and a wild rustic yet still linear side. Energy for days, ripe and grippy tannins and a knockout finish that keeps pumping. — a day ago

@Chris Shultz ok. Just funny that it happened two times in one day and never before ever! Synchronicity!

Domaine de Baron'Arques

Vignoble Baron Philippe de Rothschild 2016

Pretty complex - as you’d expect with a 5-varietal blend. Just opened it - a little tight still. But I think it will be very good in an hour. — 2 days ago

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2014

Saturday lunch at home with friends. All tasters very impressed with this Village Bourgogne from the 2014 vintage which was excellent for whites. Great intensity and tension for a village wine. Good minerality. No time for detailed notes. Went well with fresh Tasmanian oysters. — a month ago

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 1995

Still a very robust wine. Not in the least past its prime. There’s a lot of fruit left, but there’s also a lot of oak., even after 26 years. This has dried out the wine a little bit. Don’t make too much out of my criticism. The wine is very enjoyable, so the bottle was finished without any complaints from my friends at the table.
