Velvet Glove McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, raisins, dried figs, alcohol, licorice, vanilla, cedar, cola, spices, milk chocolates, tobacco and peppercorn.

Full bodied, smooth and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

On the palate black currants, cooked plums, sweet cherries, vanilla, spices, cedar, espresso, cola, light herbs, licorice, mocha and red chili pepper.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty Shiraz from Australia. Big and bold, and somewhat sweet. Has a lot of acidity on the finish for all that fruit. Rich and extracted.

Very much "in your face" kind of wine, and not for the faint of heart. Feels very much like a Napa Syrah, with a teeth staining color.

Needs a couple hours to open up properly, which I didn't have, as it finished too quickly.

Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly, and calm down a bit. Will be a 95+ wine in 10 years. Will age nicely in the next 15 years.

Wine Spectator 95 points. Robert Parker 96 points.

Good as a sipping wine, and good with food too. Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats. I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

16% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

McLaren Vale Grenache 2014

See previous note from January 2022. Has lost its primary red fruited characters of raspberry and strawberry from its youth. More musky and earthy these days. From 72 year old Grenache vines in the Old McDonald vineyard in McLaren Vale. Steve Pannells winemaking touch still evident with excellent material - a great combination. — 2 months ago

The Dead Arm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017

Very interesting. Silky, but with the character. An oak, a dark chocolate, licorice, some dark fruit, and with something I don't recognize. Short, sharp finish. Love it! — 3 months ago

Individual Vineyard Selection Eden Valley Dry Riesling 2017

Great clarity to the colour of mid to pale lemon. Stone fruit notes, white and yellow florals - not a hint of kerosene. Those same stone fruit notes coming through on the palate with a nice sweetness - almost off dry, but still M plus acidity. Very mineral. From a block of Riesling vines planted in 1961 in the Eden Valley with a reputation of producing long living wine. — a month ago

Jester McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

Delectable Wine
9.1

Opaque ruby. Spice-accented dark berries, licorice and a smoky nuance on the expressive nose. Fleshy and broad in the mouth, showing supple texture and plush blackberry and cherry cola flavors that tighten up on the back half. The smoky note recurs on the long, seamless finish, which features gentle tannins and lingering spiciness. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2022)

Single Vineyard Estate Eden Valley Dry Riesling

Pale straw vibes, limestone, mineral, mountain grass.

Apple-y 🍎

Slightly petrol note at the end, dry as a desert bone, higher acidity than what’s called for, little more sharp and refreshing than savory and round.
