Olé Imports

Giaconda

Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

Winner of the night from the Legend Imports wine dinner at Peasant featuring a variety of beautiful wines from Australia that are not mollydooker penfolds or yellowtail.

This wine was described as Australian Montrachet and boy was that right. Anyone tasting blind would’ve picked burgundy.

Delicious.

Château La Nerthe

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc White Rhone Blend 2013

I bought several bottles and opened this last one about 3 years later. Nice aromas of green and stone fruits with a citrus notes. The palate shows apple, peach and pear, still crisp with good balance, fresh and lively. The finish shows nutty earthy tones. I met with the distributor, Pasternak Wine Imports a while ago who indicated this wine can be enjoyed now, but put it down for a few years, the age will benefit the wine greatly, he was right! — 4 years ago

Negrette, cab franc, misc blend. Long carbonic maceration. Good grip and tension, with appealing reductive notes. Drinks like Hervé Souhat Syrah/gamay.

Mountfaucon

Monsieur Le Baron de Montfaucon Vin de Pays du Gard Red Rhone Blend 2010

MAGNUM! This is an unique blend of all the permitted grapes in Chateauneuf (red and white), named after Rudi’s grandfather, that plays well above its humble Vin de Pays du Gard, complex, rich, structured, needs 5+ more years, great wine!!

(Disclosure — Rudi is a friend through my brother, who imports his wines, but the front label shows the 12th Century chateau on the Rhône across from Chateauneuf, just south of the Lirac appellation!!)

@Doug Powers Sounds like a fascinating wine

@Ira Schwartz it is, while just a Vin de Pays, it’s honestly the best wine they make (it’s only made in the best years, great elegance)!

Château Aney

Haut-Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Delicious BDX. Rating affirmed 8/17/23. Kermit Lynch imports never disappoint. And the 15 vintage doesn’t either. Great value. — 5 years ago

Freaking nice! Kind of expensive but god it’s well made. Nice selection north Berkeley imports. Warm baking spices, yellow apple and citrus blossom on the nose. Lots of precision on the palate — 2 years ago

It was very popular at the dinner, I tasted this on release and it really caught my attention. It was nice but as my Beaujolais experience has expanded, this isn't in my focus right now. Foillard, Breton, Thivin, Dutraive & Roilette are my current passions.
