Château Cantemerle

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

9.2

92-93 for me.

Consumed half bottle at pop, then corked for another 4hrs before consuming the rest. No change.

What a beautifully elegant and refined ‘09. The highest compliment I can give this is that it was a simplistic joy. Some wines make it easy to get nerdy and command your attention…some wines are underwhelming and not worth your time. This was squarely in the middle. It was a joy to not feel the need to overthink…it’s exactly what it should be. No bricking at almost 15yrs. Decidedly black fruit heavy (black currant, cassis, underripe blackberries) with a sprinkling of raspberries and black cherries. Aromas of sweet pipe tobacco, dark florals. Integrated on the palate with good structure and acidity…not a massive wine, but it put on a bit of weight/length the longer it was open. Still sporting a fair bit of tannin at the finish, but it’s balanced. Drink or hold.

Fine description

Conti Costanti

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Very savoury aromatics - earthy , mushrooms, wet nappy, leather, plums. The palate is medium bodied finishing with grippy fine powdery tannins - a little astringent. This wine is middle aged and will carry on through to the mid 2020’s. I have had better Brunellos. Will put it down to the vintage where there are differing views. Parker said 2012 was 88/100 and “ready to drink”. — 3 years ago

I though this was kind of so so.

"Entre Deux Mères" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Drinking really nicely right now. Rides the middle ground perfectly between old school and modern Napa cabs. If anything leans more old school. Not a bad vintage for this bottle given that the critics poo-poo 2011. — 2 years ago

Orin Swift

Slander California Pinot Noir 2018

I am a big fan of David Swift Phinney wines. In 1998 David founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. Aged 10 mos in French oak, 42% new, Ruby with complex aromas of fresh fruits, floral and herb spice, nice mouthfeel. On the palate flavors of raspberry and cherry with cacao and hints of pepper spice. Rich full chewy tannins, well balanced on long finish ending with fruit and earthy spice. — 2 years ago

The Prisoner Wine Company

Cuttings California Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2018

Bold red color, ruby at the edges fade to dark deep red in the middle of the glass. Earthy off the nose. Big taste, super smooth finish and extremely drinkable. Drink now, or 10 years from now, this is great! — 3 years ago
