Mild mild aroma of citrus and green apples. Green apple citrus tartness in the middle then a quick finish. — 3 years ago
I am a big fan of David Swift Phinney wines. In 1998 David founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. Aged 10 mos in French oak, 42% new, Ruby with complex aromas of fresh fruits, floral and herb spice, nice mouthfeel. On the palate flavors of raspberry and cherry with cacao and hints of pepper spice. Rich full chewy tannins, well balanced on long finish ending with fruit and earthy spice. — 3 years ago
Delicious jammy blend. Smooth hints of vanilla and pairs well with smoky bbq flank steak — 5 years ago
So first, a caveat: This NEEDS food! It just does. When first opened I really wasn’t a fan, tried to pair it with some lighter charcuterie fare and cheese and it just did not gel. It isn’t the crisp, light bodied chard you’d expect it to be, it’s full bodied, thick, and complex, but once we found the right food, paired with steelhead salmon cooked in butter and bacon grease, wooooah, this moves like you’d found the perfect dancing partner. The color is typical Chardonnay yellow with green hues towards the middle, with strong Meyer lemon and slight dusty stone in on the nose, maybe even some leafy, vegetal notes hidden in there. — 3 months ago
Crisp, enjoyable, would order again! Vinovore — 4 years ago
(Two previous 1983 vintage wine reviews never made it on here, so copying from CT).
My experiences with 1983s has been fairly positive, and this PL certainly is among the better I’ve had from the vintage. Holding color nicely with deep ruby and slight bricking around the rim. Started off a bit dense and muddled, but hit stride about 30mins later with a mix of red and black berry fruit, cassis, a streak of herbal green down the middle (something I always get with PL). Excellent example of the fruit showing lots of flavor without being overly ripe. Leather, sweet pipe tobacco, graphite, and still some vibrancy at the finish with tannin structure. Clean and elegant at this stage. Showed well over the course of two hours. Drink up and enjoy. — 4 months ago
A favorite for both of us — 3 years ago
Very savoury aromatics - earthy , mushrooms, wet nappy, leather, plums. The palate is medium bodied finishing with grippy fine powdery tannins - a little astringent. This wine is middle aged and will carry on through to the mid 2020’s. I have had better Brunellos. Will put it down to the vintage where there are differing views. Parker said 2012 was 88/100 and “ready to drink”. — 4 years ago
DAL 9000
Decanted with a candle. Swirled in a decanter. Bouquet of dusty dried cherries and plums. . Initial bold fruit and dry finish before it opens up. Afterwards, the fruit moves to a dusty middle. Medium tannins. — a month ago
