Well, baseball season started. I am not a baseball fan. Too boring. But, hey, never say never and now with the rule changes who knows ….. Jack winery is created by two former baseball players Chris Ianetta and Vernon Wells and we finally tried the 2019 Jack’s Pinot….FANTASTIC!! Spicy, good tannin/acidity structure and complex balanced finish. Was so worried this be another fruit driven ‘Russian Valley’ Pinot. Couldn’t be further from the truth! Had the structure of a Premier Cru from Cote d’Nuit and the earthiness of a Central Otago New Zealand. Pinot. Loved it — 3 years ago

Wonderful white Rhône—perfumed and heady, with a charming nose of stone fruit (mostly apricot and peach) and flowers. Smooth and viscous mouthfeel and with nice balance of acid, fruit and minerals. Slight tang of bitterness on the finish, which may have been caused by my food pairing. Enjoyed the 2017 vintage with Thai beef curry and rice. — 6 years ago
spectacular. black currents. light licorice. red medicine. honey and Bing cherry on the finish. great cab franc. — 7 years ago
One of the great new Condrieu. Right there with Coteaux de Chery and not quite Coteaux de Vernon which is another level. Easily top 3. Stunning perfume or flowers, some not too ripe tropical fruit wonderful lavender and sage. There is a firm mineral core behind the perfume but it is a special nose. Palate has wonderful purity, density and freshness with good minerality and wonderful juicy intense structure. Wow. Wonderful purity and freshness and showing stunning complexity already. Brilliant. I’m sure with air my score will increase. — 8 years ago
The wine is spectacular. I can't even imagine what Coteaux du Vernon would taste like. Restrained, balanced. Mango and lychee sticks out. Had this with lobster tail and scallops. Perfect pairing. — 10 years ago
Jack Winery – Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Atlas Peak AVA, Napa Valley, California – USA 🇺🇸
Overview
Founded by former MLB players Chris Iannetta and Vernon Wells, Jack Winery produces small-lot, vineyard-designate Napa wines. Their 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the high-altitude Atlas Peak AVA, a site known for its rocky volcanic soils and cooler mountain climate that yields powerful yet structured reds.
Aromas & Flavors
Deep and expressive, the bouquet reveals cassis, blackberry compote, graphite, and dried herbs, framed by cedar and mocha from French oak aging. The palate follows with concentrated black fruits, black cherry, and currant, layered with cocoa nib, espresso, and a touch of sage.
Mouthfeel
Full-bodied and structured, the 2018 vintage shows a firm tannin backbone and vibrant mountain acidity, balanced by a velvety texture and a long, mineral-driven finish. A wine that reflects both power and finesse.
Winemaking Notes
Aged for nearly two years in French oak (approx. 50% new), the wine highlights both Atlas Peak’s intensity and the polished Jack Winery style. The 2018 vintage in Napa is considered one of the strongest of the decade, offering balance, freshness, and aging potential.
Food Pairing
Perfect with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb chops, or aged cheeses like Comté or Manchego.
Verdict
A bold yet refined mountain Cabernet that captures the essence of Atlas Peak terroir. Built to age beautifully for 10–15 years, but equally enjoyable now with a bit of decanting. A testament to Jack Winery’s precision and commitment to quality. 🍷cheers! — 10 months ago
After my discovery of Coteau du Vernon from Vernay this Condrieu from Gangloff has been the star of the night. Aromatically explosive on the nose with notes of honeysuckle and peach. In the mouth alcohol is happily controlled for a 2015 ouf! super equilibrium with pot pourri and peach. A jewel of a wine unfortunately they do not make much of it. — 7 years ago
Steve Distler, owner of Arnyca, is doing consulting for a few small labels out in Napa. As I've posted before, his Arnyca cab franc is my favorite out of Napa Valley. He was the former GM at O'Brien Estate and was able to add them to his portfolio, along with Cobden Wini (winemaker for Arnyca and winemaker at O'Brien), Frias Family and Jack Winery. Killer line-up of small production stuff. We hosted him for a wine dinner and all of it was stellar.
Jack Winery utilizes the talents of Aonair winemaker Grant Long Jr. Jack was started by Vernon Wells (former MLB player) and Chris Ianetta (current MLB player). This '14 cab is from Diamond mountain and drinking well at a young age. Not as monstrous as young Howell Mountain cabs. Red and black fruit dominant with a decent amount of espresso and pepper. Needs to rest for a few years but has very good potential to be extremely good. — 9 years ago

Drank with David, Mary and Jessica at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Minerally, ample green apple flavor, medium acid and body, unoaked. Worth revisiting. — 3 years ago
A grass and gooseberry with peach and citrus finish. — 5 years ago
Pale to mid Gold in colour. Notes of honey, honeysuckle, a little ginger and oxidative notes. On the unctuous full bodied palate Apricots and glaced fruits. Low acid and with Condrieu best drunk probably a little earlier than 7 years. A delicious drink nonetheless - one of the 1001 Wines. Postscript: Chery is considered one of the two most noble vineyards in Condrieu along with Vernon. — 6 years ago
Absolutely terrific. Extremely floral but light on the palate with enough acidity to stand up to food (lobster with sorrel and ginger coulis). Would drink again and again. — 7 years ago
I loved this. When I go back to Sacramento area I will drive out again, thank you. — 8 years ago
Very smooth. Really enjoyed this bottle. — 9 years ago

Opened just prior to dinner. The 2008 Coteau de Vernon pours a deep straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of peach cup with the pears and cherry too. There’s white flowers, honey, fresh mint and other herbs too. Wow! On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and oily. This bottle came across young. A benchmark Condrieu. Drink now through 2038. — 4 months ago
