La Mission Haut Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes . Slightly lighter than the others , but still ruby , touch of garnet at the rim. Spicer and rounder red and dark fruits . Finer and more mineral more elegant on the palate . Quite elegant . Refined and elegant , mineral , good balance and acidity . This came across as lighter than the others , though with no lack of definition . Mineral , grafite tinged finish . Showing well this is probably going to have a slightly shorter life than the others , but is great for medium term drinking , over next 5-10 years perhaps . — 11 days ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Quite bright medium ruby , ruby pink rim . Quite elegant and reserved , some red cherry, violet , summer fruits , scorched earth , touch of spice . On the palate quite elegant also , summer fruits, blackberry , blackcurrant , red plum . Good balanced acidity , herbal touches on the medium length , saline tinged finish . Quite polished but still grippy tannins . This is showing well , especially with food , but has a relatively long future , from now and over the next 5-10 years. A very successful second wine . — 2 months ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes . Medium deep ruby . This seems a bit more advanced . This is a bit harder and more structured on the palate , more tannin , less velvety and a bit more astringent . More spicy , drier on the palate . This needed more time to open . This was quite difficult to judge , I wasn’t 100% convinced about this bottle as it just seemed a little oxidative, however it did actually seemed to come together better after an hour or so , but still quite hard and astringent in comparison to the others (especially La Mission) . Showed a touch more mineral and grafite on the finish too after a while. This needed time , and I would imagine another bottle might tell a different story . — 11 days ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes . medium deep ruby , medium bright ruby rim. Quite spicy a little oak noticeable at first . Mixed dark fruits . A bit more round and juicy on the palate , good acidity , slightly grippy but polished tannins . This becomes a bit more restrained and reserved after a while. Served blind , I actually put this as Haut Brion , due to its generous personality, and polished tannins. Overall showed well in the flight was my top wine (though the Cheval Blanc may well be better in absolute terms) . Can be enjoyed now , though has the substance to last a further decade or so, a good showing for the Mouton. — 11 days ago

Very good. Maybe to young. Had some liquerish flavor at the end. But was drinking this next to a margaux.

Chateau Bahans Haut-Brion

Pessac-Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

1996 vintage. Still good fruit, Pessac-Léognan spices. A very good second wine. Drinking well, but I believe it will hold for at least a decade. Serious length too. — 20 days ago

Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Decanted 3 hours prior - but kept evolving in the glass. Typical flavor profiles, was initially closed but then nicely opened up. Very smooth and just pleasurable to drink on this New Year’s Eve. — a month ago

Château Haut-Brion

Premier Grand Cru Classé Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

First growth Bordeaux with Christmas Dinner! (Thanks to my wonderful Son-in-Law). Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Merlot (23%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Dark Ruby color with a slight rust colored rim. Extremely savory on both the nose and palate. Aromas of charcoal, graphite, unsweetened cocoa and black cherry. Flavors of tobacco, bakers chocolate, roasted herbs and a bit of black berry/cherry fruit. Very long and oaky/earthy finish. Well structured, full bodied and very complex. Soft tannins. Quite a treat! Thanks so much, Petey! — 2 months ago
