L'enclos Du Juge

Château L'Enclos

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend

2019 vintage.Owned by the Adams family (with one d), who also has vineyards in Howell Mountain (ADAMVS) and Saint-Emilion (Fonplegade). Red and black fruit, dark chocolate, and flowers. In the mouth, there is a lovely freshness, and silky tannins with some salinity in the finish. A lovely, elegant Pomerol that doesn't break the bank at less than 40 euro. Drinking well now, but I can see this even improved with more bottle age. Abv. 14,5%. — 6 days ago

Vau de Vey Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2022

Aftern an oversulfured weinland amphora Riesling/they must have used some eggs to preserve the wine. This was savior but at a steep cost to the overall bill in Denmark. Sharo clean precise. Like a dagger 2022. Well executed. Lemon, hint key lime, limestone, unfortunately the wineglass was not heated properly and had this wet dog smell. It separates the michelins from the rest @

Château Quinault

L'Enclos St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2005 pours a deep garnet/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and dried fruits: blackberry, black cherry, plum, pipe tobacco, purple flowers, cocoa, leather, organic earth and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. If you ever had an itch for some Right Bank Bordeaux, this will scratch that itch. Drink now through 2035. — 17 days ago

La Fourchaume Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

2021/3. Another new (to me) Chablis producer. I don’t have precise notes but remember liking this. The overall style seems clean and un-messed with, and I think it was a bit more structured than the Beauroy. — 5 years ago

Château Fonplégade

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

2014 vintage. This historical estate with great terroir surrounded by famous neighbours like Angélus, Ausone, Pavie etc. is going from strength to strength after it was bought by Denise and Stephen Adams (also owners of Château L'Enclos in Pomerol and ADAMVS in Napa Valley). 2014 vintage. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Biodynamically farmed (since 2009, certification in 2020). Intriguing attractive nose with an amazing minerality, intertwined with cassis and a hint of truffle. In the mouth it is initially a bit severe, if classy. I would recommend decanting or taste it over several hours. After a few hours the fruit shines through compensating the tight tannic structure and the acidity. Built to age, I feel this will deserve a higher score in 5 or 6 years. It's a very classic restrained wine that definitely has an understated class. Nice value at under 50 euros if you like this style. — 6 years ago

Domaine Labranche-Laffont

Madiran Tannat Blend 2016

2nd bottle and still so much pleasure. The well-worked Tannat grape brings notes of black plums; a mineral touch reminiscent of carbon or chemical smoke (not unpleasant), completed with a gourmet chocolate side, and notes reminiscent of pine or cedar sap or eucalyptus. The palate is supple and round with a lot of volume. The wine can still age for several years if we judge by the aromatic density. The tertiary woody touches are well melted, this is a good beefy and greedy bottle which will go as well with a chocolate desert as with a duck breast. Sweet and sour cooking will also go very well.
