Kumeu Village

Château de Villars Fontaine

le Haut du Village Pinot Noir 2010

Quite light garnet core with a wide watery garnet rim . Quite reserved and closed at first , with light red currant , herbal wild strawberry , ripe red cherry and earthy , dry spices . On the palate this has quite a rustic , tannic profile for a simples Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits , with quite fresh acidity but has enough cool strawberry , raspberry , red currant and earthy sous bois to fill out on the palate . Balanced alcohol and reasonable length , with a hint of bitterness . Pretty old school and rustic in style but certainly individual and has personality. In this vintage at least there is just enough mid palate to deal with the extended aging in oak . This does need a little time to open up and requires food and arguably needs a little more time , though I do worry that with more time in bottle it will loose the little fruit that it still has . So drink now and over the next 5 years or so . Overall probably the best red I have had from Chateau de Villars Fontaine . — 10 days ago

Tenuta Sette Ponti

Crognolo Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2019

In the heart of the Chianti lies Estate of Sette Ponti, 15 miles northwest of the city of Arezzo, past village of San Giustino Valdarno. Has 10% Merlot, aged in French Allier barriques, deep Ruby with red fruit aromas and floral notes. On the palate blackberry, plum and cherry flavors with blossom notes, spice and fine integrated tannins. Good balance, long finish ending with some oak and mineral tones. Nice! Will age a bit! Tasting well now! — 5 months ago

Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg

Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2012

There’s village and then there’s village. Gibourg made fabulous 2012’s and at age 12, the Vosne village is showing superbly, with seamless layers of fruit, mineral and spice, with the concentration of the vintage and the elegance and finesse of the site and winemaking yielding the perfect combination. In a great spot. — 6 months ago

@Peter van den Besselaar obviously a Delectable error but I wasn’t aware that Kumeu River make a Pinot Noir in any event.

Domaine François Buffet

Le Village Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2019

Lyle Fass
9.5

Stunning aromas of mid season cherry, some malted milk balls, gorgeous earth aromas and a firm mineral background. Really lovely pointed spice as well. Really expansive and so crystalline as 19 can be. So opulent in the mid palate but also allied with terrific energy and freshness. Luscious cherry fruit with great tang and chewiness Long, winding finish with even a bit of citrus Really gets to every nook and cranny. Superb stuff. Wow. — 7 months ago

Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

Vintage 2021 | This cuvée impressed me deeply: refinement and elegance, touches of vanilla and butter. Much better than eg mediocre Meursault. Lovely. Thought it was my first time but delectable shows me it is the third (139 and 501 weeks ago). Tonight it stuck me most. Must put some in the cellar. — 5 months ago
