Pop and pour WOW. Old world dried flowers on the nose. Elegant on the palate with balance of acidity and soft tannins - that linger on the front and middle of the tongue. Particularly earthy and elegant, the 2006 Valdicava Brunello displays a dark primary fruit appearance, but in its nineteenth year, it has clearly evolved from a dense, fruit bomb into a more refined pour with gentle and teasing tertiary aromas and flavors.

It is soft, flavorful, medium bodied, still well structured with light tannins and brisk acidity, and reveals interesting and savory notes of baking spices, dried fruits, nuts and herbal underbrush. The finish is long and satisfying. Aficionados of well aged wines, this is for you!

Jumped back on the horse with an 08 when the 99 proved fake. This one was the real deal. Wasn’t the best Monfortino though. Decanted and let it open for several hours while the Super Bowl unfolded. Go Eagles!!! Layered and foreboding. It didn’t have the best balance with the fruit but it was nonetheless a weighty joy. — 9 days ago
