Upon opening and initial pour, this is severe in its dryness and austerity. Brings to mind ( well, my warped mind), very pale tanned blonde leather upholstery,Saddle leather.,Baguettes. With the sea and salt marsh hanging back. Let it sit and air for a bit while I prepared chicken breasts salmoriglio with lots of lemon, come back and it sings with matching acidity and on the finish, an interesting broad dried orange peel that is perfectly there. On day two, the dried orange peel comes to the nose, and a sweet, malty character makes itself known in the mid palate.
A weirdo let’s make Manzanilla with no fortification by Navazos and Niepoort. Rewards aging. Definitely a “table wine” for Sherry freaks. I count myself as one.

A relaxed meal before Thanksgiving kicks off in earnest. Marcella hazan’s simple tomato sauce with butter and onions over some good tagliatelle, some broccoli raab, and sausage. Perfect pairing. Gave it a 1.5 hour decant which was the right call. Definitely a bit of “rustic” tannins but the fruit is quite open and giving and the finish is pure with good acid. Fruity nose and medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing raspberries, cherries, light oak, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty Sangiovese from Montepulciano in Tuscany. Elegant and fruit forward.

A good quality wine that will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years.

Easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo. Aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

This wine is medium-dark ruby in the glass. I found the nose to be subdued, but notes of ripe cherries and redcurrant berries came through. I’d like to say that I noticed the effect of the chestnut barrels used, but they were half as large as the oak casks. My olfactory sense isn’t all that sharp, anyway. The palate is medium weight and a bit tart, showing raspberry and currant flavors. The tannins are medium firm and the acidity is bright. The medium finish carries tart fruit after the sip. — 7 months ago

The 2018 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano lifts up perfumed with roses, violets, sage and tea leaves in an exotic and fresh display. Its textures are silky-smooth yet lifted and juicy, staining the palate with purple-tinged florals and blueberries. There is tannin here, yet they are sweet and round, hardly getting in the way of the 2018’s jovial feel. This may not be the longest-lived Vino Nobile, but it sure will win a lot of hearts over the medium term. (Eric Guido, Vinous, December 2021)

This wine was a gift from a friend and it is a nice surprise to me from Argentina. Known by the Malbec this Argentinian Cab blend (60% cab, 25% Malbec and 15% cab franc) has great notes of robusta coffee, tobacco and flower (hydrangea). In you chocolate and dark fruits. It’s higher alcohol level 14,5% ensures its long lasting flavour and a surprisingly round finish. — 8 years ago

From one of the oldest producers of vino nobile, this amazing 2013 gattavecchi offers everything is right with this wine leaving every defect out of the door. The color is a deep, brilliant dark ruby, charming and foretell of the pleasures this product can offer. Ripe plum and raspberry are dominant, with delicate touch of age in the form of leather and mild spices. A touch of vanilla complete this wonderful palette of flavours. High, vibrant acidity, perfectly matched by powerful green tannins and a deep alcol flow. Everything is perfectly balanced, leaving a clean and memorable palate. If we want to find a mistake, the aftertaste is not as durable as I would have wished. But at this price tag, there are few matches. Wonderful with boar, my perfect match is a traditional Tuscan pasta, pici with ragu. 5 years is its top maturation age, drink it now or regret it forever.
