Réserve Alsace Gewürztraminer 2018

It’s no wonder Gewurztraminer is one of the four noble grape varieties in Alsace, France. 👏👏👏 It’s uniquely expressive, perfumed, rich, and oily with youthful and pronounced aromas 👃 of lychee, açaí, papaya, mango, pineapple, also sweet spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and rose, stargazer lily, elderflower, and wet stone. 🤩🤩🤩

👁 This wine is deep gold. 👄 It’s dry with a modicum of residual sugar. It has medium acidity, a medium(+) body, medium alcohol, and pronounced flavors, consistent with the nose, including notes of lychee, açaí, papaya, mango, pineapple, also sweet spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and rose, stargazer lily, elderflower, and wet stone. The finish is medium(+).

We’ve paired this wine with grilled vegan brats and roasted zucchini.

Albert Boxler, Gewurztraminer, Vintage 2018, ABV 13.5% (on the cusp of high alcohol).

Cheers to it almost being the weekend(?)!

One of my fave producers- always deep, nuanced but prices have become more prohibitive over the years, especially the Rieslings- May I ask how much your bottle was?@Vanessa

@Peter Sultan Of course! The price was $37.00. I bought it directly from Kermit Lynch’s e-commerce site.

Thanks@Vanessa ! Before Kermit, Boxler was part of Robert Chadderdon’s portfolio, before he sold it- his prices were rigidly set for Boxler. But these are exquisite wines, if not several notches more expensive, I think.

Clos Ste. Hune Alsace Riesling 2013

Such a singular wine. 2013 is deep, powerful and seriously complex with buzzing acidity and lift. A touch of botrytis from the vintage that is well integrated. Massive length. Seamlessly balanced and showing superbly well right now. — 5 days ago

Racy and tight, with enough broadness and richness to be asured that we are having an Alsace riesling. Wonderful: — 4 days ago

Cuvée Mel Quatre Cépage Nobles Riesling Blend 2018

This is so pretty and drinkable. Dry and delicately perfumed.
A blend of “4 Noble grapes” (Riesling, pinot Gris, gewurz and muscat). Soft orchard fruit, floral notes of blossom and not overbearingly spicy. It’s springtime! 💃🕺🏼🐥🌼🍑🍇🍐🍎🍋🥗💕

Great with my daughters’ chicken/mango salad.

Pierres Sauvages Sec Alsace White Blend 2019

Insane nose on the Artisan from the 50% Gewürz. MS liked the Pierre Sauvages more (blend of Pinot Blanc, Gris, and Noir), but a touch too much RS for me despite the Sec labeling. Score is for the Artisan on the right. — 18 days ago

Domaine Fernand Engel

Praelatenberg de Kintzheim Alsace Grand Cru Riesling 2014

Medium gold in color, the honeyed nose shows apricot, minerally/earthy “petrol” notes, and almost a Semillon-like lanolin note. Rich in the mouth and off-dry (like a German Feinherb), it’s got deep fruit and earth flavors and is quite full-bodied (14%), with a little alcohol showing at the tail end of the finish. Not a delicate-styled Riesling by any stretch. It’s the kind of Riesling that will go better with white meats than anything from river or sea. — 16 days ago

@David L @Dawn E. @Severn Goodwin They’re Bormioli InAlto I bought several years ago (at Marshall’s of all places, I think). I love how they concentrate the nose of a wide range of wines. Unfortunately I’m down to my last 2, which my wife and I use when it’s just us. I’m not sure they’re even produced anymore. I should check (but my wife says we have too many wine glasses already!).

Alsace Riesling 2016

Not sure how my local shop still has the 2016 at $14, but I will not question and continue to scoop up. Sleek with petrol, chalky & salty minerals, lemons, and orange peel. — a month ago

Domaine Weinbach

Cuvée Colette Alsace Riesling 2018

This was advertised as pretty much a Grand Cru Riesling and my expectations were high. Had this yesterday and was a bit disappointed, but today some of the apparent acidity dissipated and allows some of the typical underlying Alsatian Riesling notes to come through. In the $30s I paid for this it is a good but not a spectacular QPR. List price? Not worth it. Much better Alsatian Rieslings out there — 10 days ago
