ruby light in colour, smooth, and truly delicious! a perfect lunchtime wine with a rare steak... — 3 months ago
A dense bright ruby in colour. Initially vanilla/oak notes which blew off with time in decanter. Dense rich and brooding - not giving much aromatically. Tight and muscular. Behaves younger than 7 years. Made by the redoubtable Rene Barbier, one of the founders of the revitalised Priorat movement as shown in the excellent documentary “Dreaming of Wine”. Full bodied and flavoursome. Rich and herbal - predominantly ripe Garnacha grapes. Red and black fruits. Had a wonderful visit there last year with the family and an informative tour and tasting at Clos Mogador. I love the fact that they have kept their wines affordable unlike their Priorat colleagues Alvaro Palacios (L’Ermita) and Daphne Glorian (Clos Erasmus) whose wines are quite expensive. This Mogador is so not ready to drink! Needs time in the cellar. Disagree with Thomas Matthews Drinking window of 2019 to 2024. Personally I think this wine will cruise through to 2030. I will leave the last one for around another 4 years. — 9 months ago
It’s been three years since my last review of this little slice of double trouble. Loose and thorny crown of creamy white with cartoon bone lacing plus bubble font. Golden overall, but reddish tinges turn it pink. Banana bread, with honey butter, a bit of molasses and orange marmalade scented, but the breakfast stops there. Healthy dollops of of honey buoy herbs de Provence, golden apple, juniper sharpness, lemon-arabica, pecan, and extra lavender. .

Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days and consistent throughout. The Founders Reserve VII is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 52%, Syrah 35%, Merlot 8%, and Cabernet Franc 5% from a half dozen vineyard sources: StoneTree, Firethorn, DuBrul, Kiona, Weinbau, and Rasa’s estate vineyard in The Rocks District. The quality of the sources is obvious. The wine pours a deep ruby color with a near opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. No signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with black currants, brambles, blueberries, lavender, stoney minerals, some vanilla and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the tannins are grippy. Another solid edition of the Founder’s series. Definitely on the young side but drinking well now and I expect it will do so through 2030 with relative ease.

Reddish amber color a surprise as Turkish coffee mocha latte just jumps from the bottle. Dark chocolate sea salt with caramel, and roasted nut evocations; all in a darker tonality. Bubble-gator lacings smooth in a viscous river. Bitter arabica and cacao nut greet the palate with honey comb and bee pollen. Brazil nut, cappuccino cigar, Java, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg sarsaparilla and cola. Lip smacking as your palate politely asks for a replay. Quality conjuring with smooth talking flavors. Rich, decadent and enticing without compromising its power. Joe cool.

Beautiful Pinot. Nuanced and balanced. The subtle earthiness nicely in harmony with the dark cherry fruit notes. Satisfying finish. Why don’t I score it higher? — 3 months ago
