Color of shades of purple, a bit cloudy and dark. Nose of medicinal syrup, spicy in the nasal cavity, aldehyde, fermented cabbage, and the nose is powerful. Taste is mellow compares with nose with soft tannins, dark fruits like raisins, just a tiny bit sweet, a bit zesty, spice, some more ripe grapes, a bit raspberry and blackberry, and indeed quite tasty and round. Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2012

The first of the whites at the Grand Cru Burgundy Dinner. Stone fruit on the nose and a little citrus. Grand Cru concentration, length and intensity, coming together nicely at 8 years of age, although still taut. Some toast and a note of mandarin. The importer, Ramon, from Negociants said this was from a 3 Hectare block using 50% new oak. Ramon said there were 4 bottles of this available for sale in Australia and all used up on this dinner. Very very good. I ended up buying a bottle of the 2017 which was a great year for White Burgundy. — 19 hours ago

Drank 10/13/20.
Nose on the light to medium side with plum, gravel, and fig. Black fruit and soil dominate the palate. Tannins mostly resolved at this stage. Finish is dry and falls off a bit quickly. Drink up, as this will not improve further.

Brown never had it so good. 8 years under flór and 17 oxidative. Alive and salty, apples, caramel, citrus, tobacco and tar on the nose. 20.5° and you can’t tell.Be thankful for the patience and drink slowly. — a day ago

Reidel vs Zalto Bordeaux glass tasting.

Reidel Vinum (approx $15\stem)

Graphite, black fruit, and earthy scents. Plum, black cherry, and earth flavors are backed by medium tannins. More red and black cherry, with a bit of oak on the finish.

Zalto Bordeaux Glass (approx $60\stem)

Nose a bit more floral, with violets, plum, and graphite. Plums, blackcherry, red cherry, oak, and earth on the palate. Seems to have a bit more lift. Finish similar to the Reidel.

Same score, but perhaps slightly preferable from the Zalto, and easier to pick out individual notes. Reidel seems a bit heavier. This wine was better a couple of years ago, and seemed to fade a bit after a couple of hours as well. Drink now.

Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.

2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.

It will be 5-8 years before I open another.

Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux.
