Last bottle of this. Still drinking beautifully. Nose has lychee, pear syrup, wet river stones, and lilies. In the mouth it’s round and broad, and also slightly sweet, but it’s all in balance due to nice minerality and a little bitter note. Love the balance on this. — 2 years ago
There’s depth and “cut” to it that invites more comparisons to its Burgundy cousins than its German ones, so give it 30 minutes or so in a decanter before diving in: Serve it at a cool 60 degrees in Burgundy stems and you’ve got one of the most versatile reds for food one could possibly ask for. This will sing with a wide range of proteins, from salmon all the way up to beef, but I can’t resist an old-school Alsatian pairing—tarte flambée. Mid gold in colour. Aromatics of yellow peach and honeyed notes. No traces of petro chemical. Medium plus intensity of stone fruit and mineral on the palate. Great depth. One of the top Rieslings in Alsace and showing it in spades. A beautiful Riesling and probably at its peak. Will stay on this plateau through the 2020’s. Interestingly about 25% went through malolactic so this is a different style from the usual Cuvée Frederic Emile. Very fresh for a 14 year old Riesling but remaining fleshy and M plus bodied. — 5 months ago
This is your #riesling if you’re not a fan of the petrol / diesel notes, once this has had a chance to breathe a bit. While I don’t mind those, this is a nice alternative terroir expression - subtle floral and peach notes on nose. @Kurt Schuster is spot on with the crystalline descriptor. The palate is more about the luscious fruit texture backed by sturdy acidity and a touch of RS rather than a lot of complexity. A crisp and zesty dry Riesling that perfect for casual summer sipping. Fresh nose has cracked stones, a slight herbal thing, and bruised green apple fruit. In the mouth it’s lively and zingy, bone dry, and quite refreshing. Thanks to my brother Angelo for this one.
UPDATE: On night 2, the fruit seems more vibrant and deeper. Upping from 8.8 to 8.9. — 6 months ago
This keeps impressing, easily comparable to Trimach Cuvee Frederic Emile. Heavy petrol with citrus, but not as much complexity as other Aussie Rieslings. Nice finish but not particularly lengthy. — a year ago
