Intense aromas and flavors of mushroom, tobacco leaf, black tea with just a hint of black cherry fruit. Hints of meat, Forrest Floor and leather. All of the tertiary/savory notes come to the forefront and the fruit stays in the background. Lighter in body. Dark garnet color. — 10 days ago
Opened in a family group in Catalunya Spain with no formal notes. Made by the redoubtable Rene Barbier where we having a tour at Clos Mogador this coming Saturday. One of those lovely luscious Mediterranean whites with a skinnsy bitterness with a low acid profile. A blend of Macabeu, Garnatxa Blanc and Cartoixa. Peachy notes in the profile. — 25 days ago
Popped and poured; consumed over three days. The 2017 Musar “Hochar Pere et Fils” presents a deep garnet color with a near opaque core. Moderate staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is funky cherry accompanied by desiccated strawberry, leather, damp earth, espresso, baking chocolate, and some exotic spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the fruit characteristics and non-fruit characteristics whilst adding a licorice, prunes and a woody note reminiscent of a hollowed out log. I have to say…after some time (Day 3), it’s just the slightest bit mousy...showing some volatility too…but well within my acceptable range for it. Finishes long, lasting well over a minute. Savory. A tremendous wine with a very Old World (Ancient) sensibility. The best vintage of “Hochar” I have had to date? To my taste, yes. — 24 days ago
Honeyed and golden. Oxidized notes but perfectly appropriate for its age. Dried apricot and corn. Sweet lemon. Very good for old meursault — a day ago
Med pink, strawberry, cherry, rhubarb aroma notes. Really nice weight on the tongue, and brilliant fruit/acid balance. Long, juicy finish that gains authority as the wine warms. So marvelous with king crab, Amalfi lemon pasta and a three inch brick of impeccably crusted Halibut. What an evening to sit on Chicago’s Riverwalk and watch the peops. Happy Memorial Day to all, esp those serving or having served! — a month ago

Popped and poured; no formal notes. A very pretty straw color with a persistent mousse. Lemon meringue, raspberries, almond croissant, and pink flowers. Powerful. The finish is rich and long. Particularly lovely with a little air and some food. These wines from Bérêche…wow. Disgorged 7/2019. — 10 days ago
