Daisy Creek

Charles Noëllat

Clos Vougeot Pinot Noir 2001

This was too much fun. 20 plus years old but still as fresh as a daisy. Or close enough to it at least.

Dark purple with just a bit of rust at the edges. Initially pretty closed in but when it opens it it blossoms. Mushrooms and earth with some cedar and herbs. There’s funk, glorious funk shining here. It doesn’t take dominance but it is rather lovely.

After decanting for a number of hours this is finally ready to enjoy. And what is this exactly? It’s perfectly fine, budget friendly Burgundy that over delivers. There’s a good core of fruit here with wild strawberries and stewed plums. Cloves, dirt, and cranberry juice. The finish is long with muted spice. A real joy to taste.

Domaine du Jaugaret

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

High tone nose with a touch of va/ acetone. Translucent and almost no sediment in the bottle.. really old school a la Bel Air-Marquis D’Aligre. Palate is electric, very classically structured and fresh as a daisy. Nose takes a day to start showing floral and fruit notes and classic st Julien character. Very good, almost great; the aromatics never really soar. Bought at the domaine; Jaugaret is an organic and small production family winery (surrounded by mega châteaux). — 3 years ago

Cain Spring Mountain District Syrah 2008

2008 vintage. Fresh as a daisy. Drinking more like a pinot. Feel like it needs another 3-5 years to transition into some semblance of maturity. Delicious but would have had difficulty believing this was a Syrah blind tasting it. Hasn’t developed that Côte-Rôtie balance-yet. — 2 years ago

Saumur Blanc Chenin Blanc 2011

There are times when the only thing that will do the trick is an old-school Chenin. And boy was this on target. Positively crackling with acidity, citrus pith and pear, quince and crushed quartz all vibrating with energy in the mouth. You’d never guess this was a 9 year-old wine. Fresh as a daisy and utterly compelling. — 3 years ago

Daisy Cutter Pale Ale

Ah, the king of them all. So bitter after fruitier IPA’s. Dangerously refreshing.
Easy to put away, 1,2,3 . 5.2°
Balance of grain/hops. Not too much or too little. With fatty foods, a dream.
Used to be a nicer can. No accounting for aesthetics. Not to mind, in this case, Chicago conquers Philly. I bow.

As fresh as a spring daisy on the nose and palate. This hasn’t moved since it was bottled. I’m very impressed.
The nose presents lanolin and lemon oil and fresh-cut flowers. Palate is laser-focused with limes, grapefruit and gravel. Acid structure is pristine, yet powerful. I’m more familiar with BC’s pinots. This isn’t how I recollect the chard to be - wow! I think this is their entry-level offering, too. A very pleasant surprise… age is its friend.
