Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (46%), Merlot (45%) and Petite Verdot (9%). Dark garnet/ruby color with a noticeable brick colored rim. Aromas of black fruit and berries, leather, rose petals and tobacco. Flavors of ripe black plums, black currant, black cherry, graphite and iodine. Long, earthy and softly textured finish that features a nice amount of oak. Well integrated and very soft tannins. Medium to medium-plus body. Still fresh and concentrated on it’s twentieth birthday. So easy to drink. Thanks for sharing this impressive bottle, Kase and Pete. — 21 days ago
A long time to open up but worth the wait! — 17 days ago
Medium ruby with quite narrow garnet rim . Quite rich and round on the nose , blackberry , cassis , touch of chocolate , coffee and dark cherry , red plum . Touch of warmth noticable . On the palate this is quite rich also with juicy dark fruits , blackberry , cassis , dark plum and a touch of grafite and cocoa , dry spice stained finish . Rounded sweet tannin and just balanced acidity . Only ok length , ends perhaps a little flat and overall could do with a little more freshness . Drinking well now , but will continue to show well over the next 5-10 years — 24 days ago
Dark rubi robe, discrete nose of dark cherries, blackcurrant and a dollop of cedar. Medium bodied, mineral, fresh and balanced, with dark fruits nicely intertwined with fine tanins. This is excellent claret in a hot year, done in a classical way. Drink or hold. — a month ago
Some vanilla on the nose. Great after 90 minutes. — 10 days ago

A Merlot dominant (90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc) right bank special from an exceptional vintage. One of the 1001 wines. More tertiary aromas at 20 years of tobacco and spice. On the medium plus bodied palate the wine shows great richness, savouriness and elegance. The following night aromas of pipe tobacco as I often get with right bank Merlot. So much inner strength with this wine which will carry it through to the early 2030’s. An interesting back story with Chateau Gazin :- A neighbour of Chateau Petrus. Gazin does not have the same power and weight as Petrus. The owners of Gazin also own Chateau La Dominique in St. Emilion, but to keep hold of Gazin they were forced to sell almost 12 acres of Gazin’s own vineyards. The purchaser was none other than Petrus and this sale robbed Gazin of some of its best parcels. — 9 days ago
