Andreas Laible

Stollenberg Großes Gewächs Erste Lage Riesling 2021

Richer and bigger than a Mosel Riesling. But more fine cut than a Pfalz Riesling. This village is across from Straßburg about 30 min in Germany. 13%. Grown on Granite. The only village - Durbach - in Baden that is focused exclusively on Riesling. On the slopes of the black Forest - essentially Black Forest Riesling! A top 10 German Riesling. And this is Andreas Laible’ top vineyard. Next time i will share flavor profile notes. Otherwise look at Lyles! — 8 days ago

Renner Reserve Erste Lage Grüner Veltliner 2021

First time in a long time trying Grüner Veltliner! I found this wine quite hard to get into, possibly because of unfamiliarity, or perhaps the style of wine? There’s no denying this is pretty fantastic stuff, herbaceous and mineral with great salinity and juiciness on the palate. It’s super concentrated, full-bodied and really quite youthful – I just think it might not be my cup of tea! Still, I’ll hold on to the remaining bottles I have and try another in a few years’ time. (Late amendment to this note: this wine came into its own with a simple dish of sea bass & lemon - definitely a wine for food!) — 6 months ago

Ayler Kupp Faß 7 Spätlese Riesling Grosse Lage 2022

2022. Had side-by-side with the similarly delicious Weiser-Künstler “Enkircher Steffensberg im Löwenbaum" Riesling Spatlese 2022. The Lauer has a tiny bit more complex flavor and a little more mouthwatering acidity. I would gladly enjoy either wine again over the next few decades! — 3 months ago

Gaisberg Reserve Erste Lage Riesling 2021

Nose - quite shy, but unmistakably Riesling - not dissimilar to a warmer region like the Rheinhessen. Mineral and herbaceous at the moment, with the fruit very much a supporting act. What great potential!

Palate - huge concentration, especially on day two! Saline, tart, like an incredibly fresh lime dressed with salt - am I drinking tequila? Also so herbaceous and floral, with hints of lavender and even blue fruits.

More reserved than the powerful, fabulous 2019, but possessing a similar level of clarity in both the nose and palate, with tremendous salinity, impressive structure and a long finish. It feels a touch early to be drinking this - even with a decant - so I look forward to breaching this case again in a few years’ time.

Surprisingly full-bodied with a bit furry petrol starting to peak in to the papaya mango notes. Bit awkward. — 7 months ago
