Celebrating my 4000th TN on Delectable!!
I opened this bottle of the 1982 about four hours prior to dinner. It was a little tight and old smelling so I poured it into a wide-bottomed ship’s decanter where I left it until I needed to head to the restaurant. I then poured it back into the bottle. By the time I poured the first glass, the wine had freshened up and it was positively singing! It’s a beautiful garnet color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears and definitely quite a bit of sediment to watch out for. On the nose, after all of the air, the wine is vinous with gorgeous notes of ripe and dried, red fruits: Morello cherry, raspberry, dried roses, tar, truffle, cedar chest, leather, dried herbs and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is such a lovely bottle of Pio Cesare Barolo annata and perhaps proving once again that the 1982 vintage was very special throughout Europe. Drink now through 2042+. — 11 days ago

Kyle liked more than me - the tannins made me a little headachy. — 7 months ago
Opened a few hours prior to service and enjoyed over the course of an hour alongside the 1998 Bartolo. The wine pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, dried roses, tar, truffle, old wood, dried green herbs, and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and savory. Stunning. This has a touch more oomph compared to the ‘98 vintage. Loved this with controfiletto di wagyu. Drink now through 2059. — 10 months ago
For the price, I expected a lot more. So did the rest on the table. Probably too young as it did improve with air, but I’ve had youthful (and cheaper) Champagne’s that performed far better than this. Started off with heaps of pears, bruised apples, and almonds on the nose. The palate was concentrated, juicy and almost too fruity for me (apples and apricot for days!). Air brought about more cut and chalkiness, as well as some floral notes. In short, I expected more depth. I suspect I’m just not a fan of the vintage. Time will tell. — 3 years ago
Gorgeous young Boca with a spectacular nose of deep mid-to-late-season cherry, fresh roses, crushed dried roses, tar, loamy earth and a faint volcanic edge. The palate is pure, balanced and beautifully elegant, with powdery tannins, excellent freshness and increasingly intense tiny-berry cherry fruit. The structure is starting to emerge with air, but the fruit remains vivid and incredibly precise. The finish is extraordinarily long, mouthwatering and increasingly confectionery, with beautiful pink-cherry tones lingering through the end. Stunning wine already, and I’ll keep tracking it as it unfurls. — 8 days ago

Presented to me double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with very faint staining of the tears and no signs of sediment or gas. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe and some tart and dried red fruits: Morello cherry, dried orange peel, roses, tar, dried green herbs, talcum powder, dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and so is the alcohol. Powerful and delicious.
Initial conclusions: this could be Nebbiolo, Sangiovese or possibly a Grenache blend from Italy or France. But if I’m trusting me notes here, this has gotta be Nebbiolo so that’s what I’m calling. Final conclusion: this is Nebbiolo from Italy, Piemonte, Barolo, and for the hell of it, I’m going to call Serralunga d’Alba…from a producer like Massolino, 2021. Ha! Vietti!! And I don’t hate my call because Castiglione Falletto is right next door. Tasty stuff, of course. Drink now with patience and through 2051. — 4 months ago

I had a bottle of this limited edition in 2021, and at the time it was one of the best bourbons I'd ever enjoyed. Got my hands on a bottle of 2025 and it now costs considerably more. Really great juice. Although 109 proof, this does not throw too much heat. It tastes very much like a wheater (which it is not), yet the rye content is also prominent from the nose through the sip. Cherry, leather, cornbread, and cigar box. Best way I can describe it is that EH Taylor and Pappy 15 had a baby. It's very good.

Time Tested
03 was historically hot & dry. Did Monprivato succeed despite these conditions?
DAY 1
Served the wine with the Vinloq System which allows nitrogen to be pulled into the bottle with pouring
👀Brown/orange mixed with red
👃Cherries, tobacco, tar & roses. Some stewed/dried fruit
👅Mature. Florals and fruit are present. Light. Could use more acid. Easy to drink. Balanced
Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my fridge
DAY 10
Nice aged notes. Savory. Okay precision. Tannins are good. Kept improving in the glass
DAY 17
👃Classic & beautiful with aged notes. Finally what I was hoping for👍
👅Drinking well. Cherry. Significant tar. Savory
Similar on the 3 days, but the nose was most beautiful on DAY 17
The pedigree was apparent here in this lovely barolo despite the vintage conditions. Balance was retained with enough precision to allow the Mascarello Monprivato personality to come through👏 — 4 years ago
JR wine first taste. Nice balanced 50-40-10 Cab Merlot Pettit Verdot with just a hint of that old timer woodiness but wrapped in mature fruit and floral notes. Good finish. — 2 months ago
2009 vintage in July 2026. Delicious paired with sherbets, ice-cream and almond cookies from maison Yver. With friends and family in K — 4 months ago
Not bad at all. Great acidity. Big fruit, some tannin and rocks. Very drinkable and not boozy. — 8 months ago
Yeasty bread, ripe and slightly browned Fuji and honeycrisp apple, hint of pineapple. Crisp but not bracing, fine bubbles. — 3 years ago
Cedric Bouchard makes some of the most singular, vinous and terroir expressive wines in Champagne which is even taken to the next level in his prized and ultra rare cuvée, La Bolorée. 2015 was a particularly great vintage for Bouchard and every cuvée I’ve tried has been fantastic. La Bolorée, 100% Pinot Blanc from 50+ year-old vines on limestone soils, is powerful, detailed and multidimensional showing layer upon layer of rich orchard fruit, white flowers and salty minerals. Just my 4th time having this bottling, but it is always a special drinking experience. We did not decant, but drank from Zalto Burgundy which somehow didn’t break on a boat 😅

Ok, not the best. First sip has a metallic taste. Better after it breathes a bit. Sept 2026 — 21 days ago
