So syrupy and sweet. Great with banana ice cream. Not my favorite dessert beverage but super complex and interesting through the sweetness. — 3 days ago

Descendientes de José Palacios

Villa de Corullon Bierzo Mencía 2022

Always fun to explore an indigenous varietal from Spain - especially when Alvaro Palacios is involved. I found this Mencia wine to be medium bodied with good acidity and structured tannins that were present in this young wine but not obnoxiously so. The fruit is darker dried red fruit that proved to be a good compliment with grilled shishito peppers. It was so nice to dive into a new aspect of Spain’s wine history. — 3 months ago

Descendientes de José Palacios

Pétalos Bierzo Mencía 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2020 “Pétalos” pours a deep purple color with a magenta rim and an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe and tart black fruits: blackberries, black cherry, salmiakki, horse blanket, and mixed earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A crazy, ambitious wine that’s the result of assembling over 300 plots. Between Raúl Perez and Palacios, Mencia doesn’t get much better. Drink now through 2030. — 12 days ago

Very nice balance of earthiness and red fruit. Slight smokiness joins in as this opened up. Something I’ll gladly have around often. — a month ago

Source shares that the fruit in this wine is so concentrated it takes an entire acre of it to make only one or two bottles of this. The glass I had fully confirms the statement to the best of my tasting capabilities. — 3 months ago
