Flaccianello della Pieve Colli Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 2019

Served to me by Giovanni Manetti but you didn’t hear that from me—he’s president of the Chianti Classico Consortium but DAMN this is good wine and he’s tilting at changes in the region to ever improve all the wines. I couldn’t NOT mention this tho, thrilling just to smell, savory and richly fruited, and complex beyond…cherry cordial, mint, chocolate, blackberries, cheerful and serious all at once. Splendid and beyond. — 12 days ago

Colli Orientali Del Friuli Pinot Grigio 2020

Slightly spicy green fruits , pear and ripe apple . Nice balanced acidity with decent weight on the palate. Fruit on the palate mirroring those on the nose . Well made, quite refreshing with ok length . — 2 months ago

Colli di Luni Vermentino

2020 vintage.
From Liguria, Italy.
Straw yellow with golden highlights.
Citrus, wild flowers and ripe grapefruit on the nose.
Bold and crisp with fresh bright fruit. Yellow apples, pomelo and lemon verbena with crisp minerality on the finish.
We had dark miso marinated Gindara (Sablefish) fillets with this Vermentino.

Case Via Colli Toscana Centrale Syrah 1998

Nose has ripe plum, fig paste, blackberry jam, violets, old leather jacket and moist chocolate cake.

Palate has dried blackberry, ripe mulberry, dehydrated black cherry, ripe blackcurrant, damp cedar notes with medium tannins and a very long finish.

Paired wonderfully with pork cassoulet tonight. Double decanted, 4H rest at the time of notes.

I'd bet, if we opened this wine in 2032 it would still taste pretty much like it does tonight in 2022; Stunning and young, probably 20 years in front before the fruits start dropping.
Probable that '98 might have been inaugural vintage.

Interesting. Syrah is obviously suited to Tuscany but you don’t hear the Tuscans promoting it. I must admit I haven’t had too many Tuscan Syrahs. Could live beside Sangiovese or even perhaps a blend?

Possibly. We only have a handful of Syrah from Italy in the collection. It's not something I see routinely, that's for sure.

In Tuscany the Syrah is mainly grown in the Cortona region. I think it’s planted the most in Sicily and Tuscany. I have the Isole e Olena Syrah 2016 of which I had the 2015 some time ago. It was still very closed. So @Severn Goodwin his review doesn’t surprise me

Colli di Salerno Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2003

Smooth and intense. Powerful nose ending with pepper. Palette is intense red wine to start, followed by a pepper finish. The tannins are all smoothed out. Just the right age. — a month ago

Friuli Colli Orientali Pinot Grigio 2020

Light Silver/Gold color. Intense Fruit salad aromas. Just a hint of white flowers. Pallet is full of pear, lemon, exotic and tropical fruit flavors (lots of mango). Touch of mineral on the finish. Nice heft and texture. Bright and well balanced. Crisp acidity. Normally not a favorite varietal of mine, but this is a nice expression of Pinot Grigio. — 3 months ago
