Neive Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

This is Garagiste’s private label. I’m guessing the producer is Icardi because that’s usually their go-to for Barbaresco and Barolo, but I can’t be sure. In any event, this is terrific wine and at its peak, in my view. Nose is classic with rose petals, beautiful dried cherry, mineral-flecked gravel, and some tertiary old library scents making an appearance. Soft, long, and balanced in the mouth. Really fine. Strangely, zero sediment. — 4 months ago

9.1

On the nose the red fruits are a bit shy and overshadowed by the earthy and savory notes of black tea leaf, tobacco, tar, balsamic, and licorice. The flavor is much more balanced with sweet cherry leading the way. Medium body. Lively and delicate on the palate. Mellow dry tannins.
Prinsi is a small Neive based winery. This single cru Riserva is its flagship bottling. 48 months in combination of Slavonia and French oak casks.

Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato 2017

Love the story: vineyard of the parish priest in Piedmont. Forced to sell by the Catholic Church.
Beautiful note, reminds me a little of Nebbiolo: perfume, recipe red fruit, just wants you to put your nose in the glass. Little heavier on the palate with noticeable acidity and some tannins.

Vie Erte Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2021

Popped and poured; due to the setting, this was enjoyed over the course of an hour but I would have really preferred to have taken my time with this. I had my first experience with the 2021 Barbaresco’s from Cigliuti last December when I enjoyed the Serraboella. I found that wine to be stunning. As one could probably imagine, I was therefore, really excited to try “Vie Erte” which is sourced from the family’s modest (only a few acres) holdings in the Bricco di Neive MGA. To my palate, this takes things to another level.

The 2021 “Vie Erte” pours a beautiful ruby color with a brilliant, transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with sensational notes Morello cherry, strawberry, stone fruits, pink roses, talcum powder, camphor, sub-Alpine herbs, exotic Eastern spices, dry gravelly earth and minerals. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish lasts for minutes. This is a drop dead gorgeous Barbaresco. The nose alone is enough to send me to Elysium. There’s impeccable balance. Possibly the best Barbaresco I’ve ever had. Drink now through 2061+.

8.9

The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo is fresh, vibrant and absolutely delicious. Sweet floral and red berry notes are front and center in this gorgeous, translucent Langhe Nebbiolo from Sottimano. In 2018, the fruit came from the Vigna del Parroco section of Basarin. Rose petal, lavender, mint and spice all linger on the finish. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2020)

Bordini Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2018

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2018 Barbaresco Bordini is a dark, full-bodied wine that expresses the natural intensity of this sector in Neive. Readers will find a bold, structured Barbaresco endowed with serious depth. Black cherry, sage, menthol, licorice, mocha and spice are all kicked up in a Barbaresco that balances energy with size. The 2018 is one of the best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. Gallina di Neive Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1990

Nice looking bottle, TS fill. Brought to Grasings in Carmel, opened/decanted 4 hrs before. Reddish tawny, doesn’t look it’s age. Wow nose. Exotic, attention grabbing. Notes of tea, rose petals, black fruit, some licorice and a little menthol. Ethereal in the mouth. Needed 5+ hrs to show its stuff. Had the staff standing in line for some shared pours. Great showing. At peak but bottles like this one are going to deliver pleasure for another 10 years easily. — 7 years ago
