Reserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1990

Tasted blind. Dark tawny with some amber in the rims. Notes of black cherry, blueberries, violets, some menthol. Great texture in the mouth. Started out as masculine but became more subtle and feminine with air. Long finish. Guessed 78 Giacosa. — 6 days ago

Clos du Fonteny Monopole Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Elegant, like Lignier's Chaffots, but less tense and more round. Kai reckons it's due to some premature development (due to less than ideal storage), which I agreed. For a 15', the fruit should have been livelier, especially from this producer. Still delightful. Bouquet of dried strawberries, black cherries, cedar, and earth. The palate has a inner sweetness. Intense minerality permeates the mid-palate. Finishes with candied orange and earthy notes. Shorter, compared to the Lignier. Definitely the weaker pino of the night, but that might not have been the case if we had a perfect bottle 😉 — 7 days ago

Bor, Bruno, Boldogsag Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

16/20 (89/100) Аромат с нотами черничного и смородинового варенья, шоколада, вяленого мяса. Тельное с высокой кислотностью и довольно интенсивными, но мягкими танинами. Пить здесь и сейчас. — 13 days ago

Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 1982

Dark ruby. Carried by a core of deep fruit. Drank younger than its age. Excellent, if not as charming as the ‘88 alongside it. — a month ago

Di Bruno

Clarksburg Pinot Noir 2018

Richard Bruno has again crafted a Pinot upon which even non-Pinot oenophiles, such as myself, may yet shower with praise. It has a lot of dark and inky body, which makes one wonder; in California, a wine can be labeled as varietal if it is at least 75% from that grape. It therefore begs the question for Mr. Bruno: what other grapes are in this blend? While it has the acidity of a typical PN, making it a great accompaniment to fish or Chinese food, it has a very solid tannic structure, as well as a much darker tint to the color than is normally seen in a typical dark pink PN. Mayhap some inky Bordeaux grape, such as Cabernet, Merlot, or even some Petit Verdot has entertainingly corrupted the PN Purists’ concept of a PN? This PN lacks the disgusting cigar flavor of the “pure” version, and presents dark cassis and dried currant fruit, with a chewy licorice tannic structure, and a unique gravelly mouthfeel to the finish. I love it when I find a beautiful PN that is certain to annoy the cognoscenti! Cheers and L’Chaim to all those who rebel against the status quo in any regional varietal! — 15 days ago

Domaine Bruno Clair

Les Cazetiers Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2005

Rich crimson in colour- quite dark for a 14 year old Premiere Cru but it is from Gevrey Chambertin. Spicy aromas with ripe cherry and some violet. On the palate ripe red fruits but unfortunately some coarseness and rusticity - lacking in balance. Expected more from the vintage, the vineyard and the producer. Still a little tight and contained. Jancis Robinson’s drinking window to 2025 might make a difference. With the benefit of hindsight would have left this for a few more years. — a month ago

@Bob McDonald it looks like most of the good important Cru of the 2005 vintage are kind of shut at the moment.. And to tell you the truth they have been like that for a while. But let's not despair 🙏

@Ceccherini Cristiano Yes - a long cellaring vintage it appears.
