Crazy crazy spice as expected from this cuvee. There are layers of tar, deep black cherry and huge minerals as well. It’s a terrific nose. Stunningly deep and aromatic 95/9.6 nose. It evolves constantly and is almost not stable it’s changing so much. Violets come into view. Also a loamy aspect. Palate is tight but oh so promising. Amazing fine grained tannins that are super velvety. So pure and love the 2014 angles. Complex and elegant with just terrific lift and brightness. Long, complex and mineral tinged finish. Sappy and pure. Really long. Awesome inner mouth aromas of sweet cherry. Balanced, pure and super sweet with air. This has massive structure and will only get better and likely demands 3-4 years in the cellar. So killer. 9.4 but I think in an hour it’s gonna be 9.4. Stunning finish.

After air this is insane. Nose is perfumed, complex and spicey. Deep violets. So good 9.5 nose. Palate is so velvety now. Great freshness and so pure. Terrific finish. Gets to every nook and cranny.

Showtime form the very first pour. Absolutely sensational aromatics with red cherry fruit, orange citrus, sandalwood, and roses. So much depth! On the palate, there is red fruits and porcini with a long and lovely, every so slightly saline finish. Gorgeous and now I want more…but this bottle was courtesy of a friend and I live in Nebraska where we don’t always get to have nice things. A fabulous pairing with duck frites and bison tartar. — 2 hours ago

Such a sick nose. Spice, cherries and so delicate and linear. Gorgeous chestnut. Stunningly mineral. Really really impressive aromas. 13’s coming into their own. Just such lift here. Palate is so juicy and has that insane core of 2013 fruit. Complex with terrific texture and velvety sweet tannins. So pure and deep. Awesome structure and length. Just a brilliant bottle of Barolo. Cerretta Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Opened about 30min before serving; consumed over a three hour period. A wine that seems to be mostly about aromatics at this point. Initially, the nose was bing cherry, alpine herbs, tar, wet river rocks…but that shifted after about an hour when fresh raspberries and chocolate covered citrus candies entered the mix. And then, after about 90 minutes of air, then…came the roses accompanied by watermelon Jolly Rancher™️. Really quite captivating!

On the palate, things were a bit more subdued: tart dark cherries, blackberries, tar and minerals were the most obvious…but I have found many 2010 Barolo’s remain pretty reticent, locked behind a giant wall of tannins and really, this is no exception. Lovely acidity. This finish is quite long and, notably, quite saline. While this is enjoyable now, I believe the best is yet to come. Drink now, with some patience, through 2035+?

Vigna Lazzairasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

From the lower part of the Lazzarito, a traditionally-produced Barolo from an under-the-radar winemaker. The ‘14 could appreciate 5-10 more years in bottle, but I’m impatient. Big leather and anise, with some herbal notes.... almost a “meaty” wine, but the florals come to dominate after some air. Should be perfect with your rich N. Italia foods. Looking forward to visiting this winery on our next Piemonte trip. — 6 days ago

1 week later and another 2 glasses with Coravin. Really fantastic nose with spices and cacao, just like a Greek spice market. Also some luxury leather and prunes, I love this bouquet. In the mouth a great acidity that goes well with the vegetable risotto. Great taste and and strong finish. — 5 days ago

After 45 mins in decanter this was Barolo from central casting. Tar and candied red flowers on the nose led a beautifully integrated and silky smooth fist full of old leather, dark cherry and fine tannins. Long, lingering finish. Nose got better over time. Excellent. — 6 days ago
