Suspended Sour Golden Ale

Suspended from Tired Hands Brewing Company: “A mature Sour Golden Ale brewed in July 2016 with wheat and oats, and lightly hopped with a blend of Simcoe and Amarillo. Primary fermented in two large oak puncheons with a house ale strain. Secondary fermentation occurred with our Magickal Saison yeast and mixed cultures. An exercise in time and patience, this beer was bottled in February 2018. Refermented in the bottle for natural carbonation and conditioned for over 2 years before release.”
One of my favorite beer styles and this is a great one.

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1926

Tasted blind. Dark amber/tawny color. Notes of brown sugar, hickory, earth, saddle leather and some cola. Sweet to the taste with lots of complexity. Fruit is still present, with tannins fully resolved of course. Guesses by the boyz are 50’s Bordeaux, but I think it’s older. I’ve had two really old bottles of Chateau Margaux from the 20s and 30s, and I think it’s in that camp so I go with a guess of Margaux from the 20’s. Bingo. We’re told this was given many hours in the decanter and then we consumed it over 3 hours… it was alive from start to the last drop. What a great experience to drink grape juice that is nearly 100 years old. Bravo and thanks Stan! — 21 days ago

light ruby, amber rim; red cherry, strawberry, plum, pine cones; tart red fruits, spicy finish; light bodied, high acidity, fine grained tannin provides nice backbone , 12.6% ABV; one of two appellation Pinot’s Ted Lemon makes, 50% of the blend comes from the Twin Hills vineyard just south of Sebastopol, 17% comes from declassified vineyard designated from Hirsch, Mays Canyon, The Pivot, The Haven and Thieriot vineyards, and remaining 33% is press wine from these same vineyards; $60 — 19 days ago

Los Empleados Chavez Vineyard Red Blend 2020

Another entrant in the burgeoning So Cal winemaking scene. Met Dusty Herrmann and the York brothers when they were picking Mission and Grenache in the Bob Munoa vineyard last fall. This one is from the high desert of Antelope Valley, and is an interesting and fun field blend of Alicante Bouchet, Chardonnay, Muscat, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Viognier and Zin. Dark Rosé color, beautifully expressive nose, and light on its feet at 13.15%. Only had a small taste, but enjoyed it enough to order two bottles, along with their Mission, Alicante Bouschet Rosé and Amber Muscat. Certainly an interesting new project! — a month ago

Le Brutal de Jean-Marc Alsace Gewürztraminer Blend

Beautiful amber color with a slight haziness. Nose is earthy and then a hint of wildflower honey. Taste reads less sweet than the nose would lead you to believe, but offers a nice citrus minerality and a bit of apricot yum. — 2 months ago
