Agincourt Cabernet Malbec 2011

Very right bank (yeah, I know it’s cab sauv). Super Bdx nose, very plush fruit, the malbec fleshes out the cab plenty. Really a joy to drink. Needed 20-30 mins to throw off some bottle must, then heaven with lamb fillet. — 10 days ago

Close Planted Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2015

The tasting notes for this wine from 32 weeks ago pretty much cover it. Aromas of cashews, lees stirring , barrel ferment characters. These aromas dominate any fruit aromas of citrus and melon. What you might say is a “worked” Chardonnay but most enjoyable. The following night it had filled out somewhat with a peach note. — 17 days ago

Interesting & unusual - raspberry fruit with herbaceous notes. I like! — a month ago

Yarra Valley Marsanne Roussanne 2015

A rich lemon in colour. A little honeysuckle note but not intensely varietal like a Southern Rhone white can be - aromatic and unctuous. Just medium bodied - a little elegant. Medium minus acid. First of 3. Drink the other 2 in the next year or so. Made by the long established de Pury family who are French who commenced making Marsanne at Yeringberg in the 1860’s and pioneered Roussanne in Australia in the 1980’s. A good wine but to be honest not as enjoyable as Guigals Cotes du Rhone Blanc using largely similar varietals for $24. I should add that Yeringberg make a benchmark Cabernet in the Yarra Valley. — 11 days ago

Local Vineyard Series Barkala Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

Smoky, savoury, and spicy nose, some oak and a leesy sulphidic note. On the palate mainly citrus but a little riper verging on to stone fruit. One of David Bicknell’s lesser Cuvées which I thought would be lean but not so. Coming together at 6 years of age. Drinking really well from one of Australia’s best Chardonnay exponents. — a month ago

Giant Steps

Tarraford Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

Touch of pineapple juice on the nose with citrussy notes. The palate is sweet and fulfilling and ticks all the boxes for an excellent Yarra Valley Chardonnay. Overall quite delicious, medium weight and never heavy considering the M+ flavour intensity. — 3 days ago

Giant Steps

Primavera Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Very stalky and savoury on nose and palate. Steve may have overdone the whole bunch component in the ferment? A good wine as always from Giant Steps but would have preferred a bit more red fruit. First of 4 bottles. Will leave having the 2nd for a year. — 2 months ago
