Opened about an hour prior to service and enjoyed over the course of two days. Better on Day 2. The 2005 RsV pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and dark fruited with ripe notes of black cherry, strawberry, red and purple flowers, licorice, dried green herbs, and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Always a special treat, the DRC comes across the most polished and frankly, primary in this lineup of legends. It fresh and beautifully balanced. It just needs time as the Day 2 experience indicated. Medium ruby with a medium garnet rim . Touch more sweetness on the nose , with rose , ripe cherry , red plum , raspberry , blood orange and some slightly toasty notes . On the palate this is juicy and quite sweet fruit profiled with raspberry, strawberry, quite fruit dominated . Rounded but noticeable tannins , fresh vibrant acidity and decent length . This is quite young, certainly compared to the Malconsorts , pretty sweet fruit , but overall well balanced and probably just needs a little more time . Quite a lot appears to be hidden at the moment , comes across a little one dimensional, but I think it will get there . Come back in 5-8 years, should drink well a further 10, if not more. — a month ago

Taste: silky, rich, hedonistic style with some plum/blackberry, licorice, mineral, graphite, soil,and a spiced earthy medium plus dry finish. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A delightful pairing with Bison ribeye. Long generous finish with crisp acidity and fine grained tannins.

Clos Saint‑Jacques is often hailed as the “Musigny” of Gevrey‑Chambertin. It combines the signature power and structure of Gevrey with the elegance and finesse of Vosne‑Romanée, and Armand Rousseau’s bottling has always been remarkably consistent.

2004 was a challenging vintage—a weak year in which many grapes failed to reach full ripeness. Now that it has entered its drinking window, it opens up quite nicely. This is not a flamboyant style; instead, it leans more toward herbaceous notes and bay leaf, with hints of florals and red cherry. It has a mineral quality, yet without the saline or briny character often found in other Gevrey vineyards. The acidity is well‑balanced. The overall bouquet is delicately fresh, reserved rather than exuberant, yet persistent, and it doesn’t evolve dramatically over time. — 5 hours ago
