Troesmes Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Lyle Fass
9.2

Nose is pretty reduced off the bat. Some lime. Some minerals. But a bit stinky. Will blow off. Does as it gets more airy and mineral. Palate is juicy, super mineral and very incisive. Even a bit young. Super well balanced and pure. Wicked acids. Good depth, texture and concentration. Lovely structure and minerals fan out on the finish. Almost a 9.3. Really good length. If nose gets better it will be a 9.3 — 20 hours ago

Clos Des Chenes Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

9.6

What a wine. Stunning, ethereal nose of bright mid to late season sappy cherries, cocoa, minerals, huge and airy. Very expansive and pure. Stunning array of layered aromas. All on a bed of rocks and limestone. So so impressive. Incredible density and elegance with classic tell tale Clos des Chenes stoney minerality. Long, chewy and dense with superb purity and structure. Better in 10 years but fun to peek into today. — 2 days ago

Domaine Anne Gros

Richebourg Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1996

Tasted blind. Dark purple with tawny rims. Powerful sharp nose. Notes of black fruit, pepper, rhubarb, dark spice and dark earth. Has that tinny mouth feel that I’ve associated with 96s before. I find this young and harsh, with a massive core of fruit hidden underneath. The profile implies to me it’s Vogue and I throw out a 99 Musigny guess. Others liked this wine more than me. I question if the fruit can ever balance with the in-your-face acidity and structure. Some 96s have stated to soften and move into a drinking window. For me, not this one yet. — 9 days ago

limited experience w her wines but not a big fan. Wasn’t too oaky?

There was definitely some oak there... it’s the shrill acidity that dominated the experience tho. Maybe with a lot of air it might have resolved and softened up a bit

Henri Germain et Fils

Les Fairendes Morgeots Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Always a great bottle at this domaine. Medium bodied, not the deepest but very classy, elegant, pure fruit, mineral, with enough richness and roundness for great balance. Really delicious. 91-92

Superbe bouteille de Germain comme toujours, quelle classe. De corps moyen, pas le plus profond et le plus riche mais frais, élégant, minéral, du fruit pur avec juste assez de rondeur et de richesse, un vrai délice. 91-92

Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1959

(1959 Richebourg - requested a review to resolve the wine identity - nobody appears to have posted on this before in Delectable ). Tasted blind, from two combined bottles. Brownish amber color rims with an amber tawny center. Looks old. Perfumed nose. Notes of cherry kirsch, decayed leaves, prunes, some exotic spice and roses. Smooth sweet and silky in the mouth but not over the top. Tannins fully resolved but the wine still has a solid structure holding it up. This “peacocked” numerous times, exploding with wow-factor moments of crazy enjoyment. Later in the evening it slowed down as you would expect. The spice and exoticness of the highs of this wine put me in Vosne, and the age put me in the 60s. Doesn’t seem like DRC, so I guess 66 Richebourg that is not DRC. The Richebourg part of the guess was pure luck. Rating this for its peaks and wow moments. It’s a great datapoint for future tastings. — 22 days ago

Domaine Sebastien Dampt

Les Beugnons Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2014

9.4

Wow this aged so well. Sick nose. Seashells, savory, confectionary, so mineral and exuberant. Deep. So airy and floral. Stunning. Palate is deep, silky and rich with terrific energy and sap. So pure and chiseled. Electric. So long and mineral. Just a hint of opulence then acid crash and minerals with lingering pithy fruit on the finish. Awesome texture and lime rock intensity. So juicy and explosive. Expansive as it airs. Solid 9.4. So long. Just lingers and lingers. — 16 days ago

Delagrange-Bachelet

Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1989

Tasted blind. Great nose but a tiny bit of taint. My first taste tells me this packs a big wallop. Huge fruit, acidity and structure. Lemon chiffon, white flowers, earth and rocks, some iodine. Motor oil weight. The taint was minor but just bothersome enough. Without it this would merit a bigger score. — a day ago

Domaine Roulot

Charmes Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2004

Light gold. Awesome nose. Notes of lemon and tan spice, white stones, some mint and fennel, and a hint of tangerine. Lean and razor sharp in the mouth. In perfect shape, and bottles like this easily have 10 more years of life during which it can certainly improve. Gave it 3 hours in a decanter and it was still pretty tight in its showing. — 15 hours ago
