Pessac Léognan, Graves

Château de la Louvière

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2015

Enjoying some White Bordeaux lately. Previous notes from 10 July, a few months ago still apply. A whiff of passion fruit on this occasion. A creamy textural palate with a touch of pineapple juice on the 2nd night Barbara thought. Back Story: Andre Lurton who bought this property in 1965 is an aficionado of Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon is very much in the minority in this blend. Usually 85/15. Great match with fresh prawns. One of the 1001 wines. — 15 days ago

Château Haut-Bergey

Cuvée Paul Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Totally mistook the green pepper for a fault. Dried, desiccated black cherry, forest floor, and iron. Big tannins and acid. — 2 days ago

Château de la Louvière

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Happy Cab Sauv day! Celebrated with this special bottle. Decanted for 15-20 mins. Faded dark ruby red in the center, gorgeous orange hue on the rim. Medium viscosity. On the nose, surprisingly still got tones of ripe fruit - very ripe strawberries, cassis and dried cherries. Dried rose petals, violets, then chocolate, all spice, tobacco and gravel. This wine is showing beautifully and it’s right at the edge of its drinking window if not couple years past it. Medium/medium minus Acidity, silky integrated tannins and medium alcohol are all in delicate balance and still picking up dried flower tones on the long stony finish, which wants you to go back and take another sip! — 19 days ago

Beautifully textured, with a savory - first personality centered around tobacco, olives and graphite, with a macerated cherry core. Layered and harmonious. Stupid value at < €20 — 12 days ago

Wonderfully aromatic with lemon curd, tropical guava and lime skin. Voluptuous and showing some oak but excellent acidity shines through. Give it a couple years — 14 days ago

La Seigneurerie d'Olivier

Pessac-Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend

2014 vintage. Confusingly there are 2 second wines at Château Olivier, this one is probably 50% merlot and 50% cabernet sauvignon and it is absolutely delicious. Chateau Olivier is on a roll over the last years and this exceeded my expectations. Nicely concentrated fruit, with a certain spicy complexity, polished tannin and an impressive finish. Hard to resist now but should age well for a few more years. Well worth the 19,50 euro price tag. — 9 days ago

Nez légèrement évolué sur lamande amère. Arôme inattendu de violette. Beaucoup de matière en bouche. Agrumes. Belle longueur et encore beaucoup de panache — 4 days ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

Perfectly stored btl of La Mission that is one of my favorite drinking vintages. This has been fully mature for more than 10 years & has not lost a step showing the classic La Mish character. An underrated vintage that has never disappointed. — 9 days ago

Château Haut-Bailly

La Parde de Haut Bailly Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Second wine of Chateau Haut-Bailly, blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cab Sauv & 10% Cab Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of black fruits, cassis and flinty notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, red currants and juicy blueberry with cedar notes and baking spice. Firm tannins, medium acidity ending tangy with fruit and mineral finish. Very Nice value! — 21 days ago
