this is very light… Almost rosé colored with a hint of Amber. On the nose, classic Nebiolo, lifted, pure and bright. This is fully mature and pretty light bodied… A touch shrill on the finish. Cherry, dried flowers, and a hint of a tang. Decent, but it’s probably saying better days. — 13 days ago

Earthy, dried rose petal, showing some dark brick color. Cork fully intact upon removal with Durand . Medium ++ body. Chewy grippy tannins. Immediate thought was this could go another 20 years! Little more fruit showing after 30 minutes open. Enjoying with a lamb shoulder roast and heirloom pumpkin hash. Happy Heavenly Birthday Karly! Hold ‘em if you got ‘em. Have a ‘15 and ‘18. Celebrating my 4000th TN on Delectable!!
I opened this bottle of the 1982 about four hours prior to dinner. It was a little tight and old smelling so I poured it into a wide-bottomed ship’s decanter where I left it until I needed to head to the restaurant. I then poured it back into the bottle. By the time I poured the first glass, the wine had freshened up and it was positively singing! It’s a beautiful garnet color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears and definitely quite a bit of sediment to watch out for. On the nose, after all of the air, the wine is vinous with gorgeous notes of ripe and dried, red fruits: Morello cherry, raspberry, dried roses, tar, truffle, cedar chest, leather, dried herbs and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is such a lovely bottle of Pio Cesare Barolo annata and perhaps proving once again that the 1982 vintage was very special throughout Europe. Drink now through 2042+. — 6 days ago

This is consistently one of the best things you can get for $38. Gave it plenty of air, and it opened up beautifully. Chewy cherries, leather, and crushed rock. I guess that's how I'd describe lots of Barolos, but this is a fine specimen. Thanks for reminding me @Tom Casagrande

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Delicious throughout. The 2021 pours a bright garnet color with transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of Morello cherry, raspberry, cranberry, red flowers, orange zest, some tar, talcum powder, dried herbs and dry, organic earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is about as sapid of a young Classico I’ve had from Produttori. It’s a bold wine right now but some time on its side will bring more into balance. Drink now with some patience through 2051. — a month ago

Sperss Langhe Nebbiolo 1996
Sperss is arguably Gaja’s most famous wine from Barolo. All of the fruit comes from Serralunga d’Alba, predominately the Marenca MGA with a little bit of Rivette. The 1996 Sperss was somewhat controversial as it became the first vintage (in a string of 17 vintages) that Gaja decided to blend in a small amount of co-fermented Barbera. This move required them to label the wine “Langhe Nebbiolo” instead of Barolo.
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service, enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 1996 pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with faint staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing (still!) with notes of Morello cherry, tar, truffle, licorice, dried flowers, gravelly earth and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. This came across remarkably young. Drink now with patience through 2066. — 2 months ago

I've had a few vintages of this and it never disappoints. It's a great mix of lively fruit and some rustic qualities. Pairs with just about anything. I'm going to have it with spaghetti squash and grilled chicken and mushrooms.
