Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018

So good. What a nose. Sopping red cherries, ripe and minty and so deep. Spice, minty foresty earth. Some paprika. So good. So unique. So Morel. Palate is ripe, juicy and loaded to the gills with sweet cherry fruit against a firm mineral background but seriously stacked with fruit. Balanced and pure. Rustic tannins, crunchy and sappy. Juicy. As Jeru the Damaja says, “Rough and rugged, shine like a gold nugget.” — a month ago

Massive hugely fruited nose. Dirt, Sous bois and minerals in the background. Massive mid season cherries. Some nice spice. Very clean and pure. Palate is juicy, ripe and has appealing dark red cherry and black cherry fruit. Lipsmacking acidity and freshness. One of the more brooding Les Vergelesses I’ve had. Really sappy but seems closed on the back end. Lovely length and persistence. Great texture and compactness. Massive fruit. More to come. — a month ago

Darker than most Burgogne’s, but good acid to balance. Very drinkable — 17 days ago

Nose is lovely. Dusty red cherries, licorice and cherry flower as well. Lovely earth and wet stones. Cooling black cherries as well with some air. Juicy and concentrated with awesome purity and freshness. So balanced with lovely elegance. Long finish and great sap. Some bramble as well on the nose after some air. Terrific intensity. Really showing well. — 11 days ago

Great wine. Smelly fragrant with lots of sweet berries. Tastes great as well. Didn’t take too much time to open up after opening. Lots of sweet berry tastes and after tastes. — 15 days ago

Clos du Roi 1er Cru Beaune Pinot Noir 2018

Terrific vintage for this wine. Nose of deep cherries. Mid season, black and sour. A real melange. Amazing clarity and shape to the nose. So dazzling in its vividness and compactness. Amazing minerality. Just so pointed and refined. A sense of refinement you don’t see often in Girard wines or this Cru. Awesome texture and juiciness. Black cherry, such purity, balance and compactness. Ripe and deep tannins and just perfect fruit. Like perfect ripeness and backed up by great energy and minerality. This is very impressive. There is great sap and such vivid black cherry fruit. Will age for a decade at least. So long. Compact. Masterful. — a month ago

Beaune fruit is great, I find it more weighty of a Pinot than most other locales in Burgundy.

@Severn Goodwin agreed. Weightier and so compact. So many great sites.

Chambolle-Musigny Pinot Noir 2014

Took an hour to open after pop and pour. On the nose: candied cherry, soft game to maybe some funk, spice and perfume, a suggestion lf herbs...the scents just dance around. On the palate: fantastic acidity, wild strawberry, candied cherry, soft at first, but density builds to a dense cherry, slowly transforming to pixelated tannins. Ethereal...even on Day 2 open. — 13 days ago

Les Fichots Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass
9.3

Classic Fichots nose. Dark fruits, earthy and sinewy. Also watermelon and strawberry. Feral and wild with major sous bois. Spice and saline. So much terroir. Awesome. Dark, juicy and structured with ripe, substantial and velvety tannins. Sappy and wild palate that needs 3-4 hours to come together but a super promising young Fichots. As it airs it gets more fleshy and defined. More later. — a month ago
