Jean-Jacques Morel
Bourgogne Chardonnay
Wet wool, green apple and minerals. Smells rich. Palate is ripe, rich and racy. Green apple skins and awesome minerality and richness. Like a chardonnay drop in your mouth. So good. Pure and vibrant and also some fat. Great showing.

Sep 12th, 2022That insanely beautiful nose of Morel. Lanolin, Crabtree and Evelyn, green apple, wow what a nose. 9.4. Grassy. Just amazing. Wow, just stunning. Village quality. Juicy and pure. Amazing texture and acids. Structured and deep. Best BB he has ever made. 9.3 now but maybe 9.4 with air.

Feb 15th, 2022Nose starts off quiet. But then slowly unfurls. Insanely perfumed. Gorgeous. White flowers, green apples, intense crushed rocks, so pure, so lifted. Palate is just so complete. Balanced like it is vibrating on it’s own plane. Elegant and super pure with a big mineral core. Showing only green apple skin fruit at the moment. But mega juicy and bright with terrific structure. The final one and it’s as great a swan song as I’d ever want. Salty and much longer that it should be finish. Terrific depth and concentration. Truly the sum of its parts wine. There is a completeness and uniqueness to this wine that is a direct result of the sum of its parts that I’ve never seen reproduced anywhere in Burgundy.

Aug 9th, 2020This wine is just like Jean-Jacques Morel's silhouette, which is very French and a little unkept. Unmanicured. This is not traditional Bourgogne Blanc of crisp acid and peppered oak. This is Chardonnay in ripe and wild form. Free spirited and behind a nondescript label, there’s an aspect of ironic cool and I could see natural wine shops selling this for $50+ if only they knew Jean-Jacques ever existed.
Glowing unfiltered hay. Aromas of lemon curd and fresh bright pineapple with a hint of vanilla. There's VA but it works. Salty sour flavors of apricots and peaches with a persistent finish.

2018; Beeswax, yellow apple, green hay, still quite primary. Decanted 2H, notes and score tomorrow.
24H Update:
Nose has warmed lemon pie, burning beeswax candle, bruised yellow apple, saline solution and wet, grassy notes.
Palate has warmed lemon slice, dried pineapple, dehydrated apricots and candied lemon.
Possibly a compromised bottle, will check another soon.
48H Update:
These wines need patience...Finally returning to how we remember.
Nose has tart green apple, honeycomb and grassy notes.
Palate has dried pineapple, candied lemon and dehydrated stonefruit (apricot or peach).
Lovely; Score change 90>91.

Pure nose, carmelized green apple, sweet aromatics. Palate was marred by a dominant acetic/sour vinegar note, likely flawed bottle. Decanted 3 hours.
