This is having a great moment. Smoke, olives, dark berry fruit, blueberry. Huge granite and deep mineral tones. Juicy, so fresh, deep and concentrated with outrageous purity and a long finish. Loads of medium to dark berry fruit and really really long finish and also serious structure. What a showing. This has got 15+ years ahead of it but is fun today. These wines will last a long time. — 7 days ago
Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.
2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.
It will be 5-8 years before I open another.
Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux. — 4 days ago
Fantastic wine and just my style!
1hr+ decant, which was perfect. Dark red color with aging on the edges. Classic Bordeaux nose of cherries, earth, cigar box, and cedar. Dark cherries, smoke, and charred meat on the palate. Medium depth with some grittiness to it, and above average tannins. Medium plus finish. Loved it!
Would drink now as it’s slowly starting its decline. — 11 days ago
Love every vintage of Gonon- the best St. Joseph IMO. So expressive and giving seemingly at any age, as it was here with 2016. My second 2016 in the last few months. Signature inky purple. Deep and intense with great texture showing black fruits, liquid minerals, newly bloomed violets, black olive and hints of cacao. Wonderful concentration, energy and finesse. Stains the palate with a long and assertive finish. Excellent. — 10 days ago
I’ve seen mixed reviews on this wine and vintage; must admit I was weary about opening it. My bottle has been properly cellared for several years and decanted for forty minutes before drinking. Fortunately the wine is excellent in my opinion; very rich, luscious and decadent. Complex and evolving with a long finish. Cheers and a shame for those bad bottles but it’s all part of the love of wine... — 13 days ago
Consumed directly after the 2015 Cornas “Le Village”. This was just a notch below that wine in my opinion. Right now, the structure is taking center stage and not allowing the fruit to deliver in the same way its cousin is giving. I also think the Cornas showed more complexity. Not that this isn’t endowed with fruit or complexity. A very lovely wine though. — 2 days ago
