Chalk Hill

Estate Bottled Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2018

A really great SB! Blend of 96% Sauv Blanc & 4% Sauv Gris adding an interesting dynamic to the wine & distinctive aromas (prior vintages added some Semillon) Pale lemon color, citrus, tropical & floral aromas. On the palate peach, melon, herb & earthy tones, well balanced with acidity, smooth yet robust on a long finish ending rich with wet stone character. Good value! A Fav!! Tried several times, very consistent!! — 6 days ago

Channery Hill Merlot Blend 2017

Rich velvety aroma. Raspberry brambles, cherries, plums, blueberry cobbler. Soft OK roundness. Gentle tennis. Easy to drink. But complex enough to think about.. All right Virginia. #virginiaisforloverz — 13 hours ago

Fox Hill Vineyard Sangiovese Friulano

Fruit juicy co-fermentation...85% Sangiovese 15% Fruilano. Early heat wave at Michigan Lake house... slight chill, tempted to break out the ice cubes. Tannic grip on finish, strawberry/fruit punch aromas... nice bright acidity. Very unusual, but fun... can imagine this as a yummy slushee. — 22 days ago

Hill of Grace Vineyard Shiraz 1991

Quintessential!!!
A bit of volatile at first
Great intensity on the nose, but with layers of elegance. The fruit is red and tiny adorned by balsamic, forest floor, leather, truffle, white pepper, coriander and more, but all whispered in turns
The palate is even better: silky, vertical, filling though and absolutely never-ending.
It makes me think of what they say of Romanee-Conti that overpowers any other wine flavour without being powerful.
An experience!! At peak too i reckon.
Cheers!!

Old Hill Ranch Zinfandel 2018

This was our “back-up” bottle just in case the 1981 Clos du Val Zinfandel was DOA. In the end, the vitality of the ’81 rendered a back-up unnecessary however, we were resolved to open this nevertheless. The Old Hill Ranch is a historic vineyard endowed with a natural beauty that has few peers. Carefully farmed as a field blend with 30 other varieties, the vineyard is thought to be home to the oldest vines grafted to St. George rootstock (some of them are over 130 years old!!). The wine pours a bright ruby with no signs of sediment. On the nose, dark sour cherry, meat fat, brambles, and pie spice. On the palate, a mix of tart dark and red fruits, minerals, and a soft touch of baking spice. The finish is dry and long. Remarkable structure. Medium+ tannin, medium+ acid. This is a wine with tremendous vigor and it’s just getting started. While this is drinking very well already, I suspect these will have a very long life and should drink very well into the 2030’s and possibly, beyond. — 12 days ago

Salt Lick Vineyards GSM 2017

Say hello to my first Texan wine.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Gorgeous nose of blueberries, cooked plums, violets, light oak, vanilla, wildflowers, light herbs, spices, tobacco and black pepper.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, vinaigrette, coffee, light oak, vanilla, earth, licorice, spices and black pepper.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and peppercorn.

This is a nice surprise. This GSM blend is drinking very nicely now. Showing a great nose with a nice mouthfeel. Tangy and interesting. Soft and rich.

Good right out of the bottle and a good wine to have all by itself, or with food. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Spicy, fruit forward and interesting. A nice porch wine that I paired with cheeses and crackers.

A blend of 60% Mourvedre, 36% Syrah and 4% Grenache. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$50.
