Sainte Anne Brut Champagne Blend

Delectable Wine
9.2

The NV Brut Cuvée Ste.-Anne is one of the best Champagnes readers will find in its price range, or any price range, for that matter. Bright and beautifully focused, the Ste.-Anne has so much to offer. The purity of the flavors is just remarkable. If anything, it needs more time on the cork to soften, as it is quite reticent at this stage. This release is based on 2017, with reserve wines from 2016 and 2015. The blend is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier, with the Chardonnay very much in evidence at this stage. Dosage is 5.15 grams/liter. Disgorged: February, 2020. La Croix au Garde Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Picked up a split of this because all my .375 empties got accidentally thrown out (I use them to store unfinished bottles in the fridge). So I was mostly after the bottle itself but what’s inside happens to be superb—lime, apple and floral notes with fine but not hard edged limestone mineral character, softened perhaps by the clay component of the terroir. I Sancerre-ly enjoyed it! — a month ago

Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils

Les Croix Noires Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Usually not a fan of Pommard, I wagered 2015 would yield more round fruit and counter the typical astringency. A good bet. — 20 days ago

Château La Croix

St. Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 5% petit Verdot. Decanted for 2.5 hours. Earthy, graphite, hints of vanilla, cocoa, and a a good amount of herbaceousness. Springy and fresh acidity. Very tannic, lingers on the palate. Well structured. Absolutely delicious. — 5 days ago

Domaine Bernard Baudry

La Croix Boissée Chinon Cabernet Franc 2015

Loving the complexity and lots of flavors. Brick red in color, pretty vibrant still. Strong aromas. Like leather and black fruit. Medium high tannin. Medium acidity. Medium body. Tastes like a bit of leather or smoke but good fruit to balance that out. Medium long finish. I’m not a huge fan of the leather smoke notes but appreciate it for what it is and enjoying the complexity of flavors! I personally have to be in mood for this one but it’s a good one! — 7 days ago
