Bianco Centennial Mountain Carricante 2017

Sicilian variety filtered thru the lens of Rhys in CA. Particularly like the saline mineral notes over citrus and white fruit. Excellent stuff and worth seeking out. Compares well to their Sicilian Carricante. — 13 days ago

Etna Bianco DOC Carricante 2018

Comparing two Etna whites in the shadow of the great mountain itself.
This is expressive & highly aromatic with ripe white peach & (over)ripe melon with some oaky notes (that mellow down with time in the glass). There’s some green walnut here as well. Deep underneath there’s the salty volcanic minerality, but it doesn’t come first.
On the palate this is at first surprisingly lean, then it broadens with the oak aromas and the spicy minerality showing in full. The sweet stone fruit fills the background.
This needs quite a bit of time to breathe & to come together... and then it really shows it’s potential & character.
Edit 24h later: this has really come together, showing biw some nice matchstick reduction and showing quite some depth. Not unlike a good Côte Chalonnais!
Great with food, not lacking solo, either. A very nice effort by Planeta.

Cuvée della Vigne Niche Calderara Sottana Etna Bianco Carricante 2019

Delectable Wine

There’s an airy and inviting freshness to the 2019 Etna Bianco Calderara Sottana that pulls you close to the glass, as a nuanced display of dusty dried flowers, cardamom, crushed stone and honeyed orchard fruits comes forward over time. It’s silky and seductive on the palate, showing a pretty inner sweetness, with ripe pear giving way to notes of almond as inner florals amass toward the close. Minerals and hints of citrus sizzle throughout the long finale under an enriching air of custard. As beautiful as this is today, it will only get better over time. Simply stunning. Etna Bianco Carricante 2015

Etna Bianco with some age! Brought back straight from the estate on our trip to Sicily two years ago. Closed down tight at first, this needs hours to show the very pretty aromas of apricot, wild flowers, yellow peach andriver stones. The palate is a bit subacid at first, but that’s offset by the minerals and incredible texture— almost oily but somehow ethereal. Dry, savory bready notes on the finish. — a month ago

Gamma Etna Bianco Carricante 2018

Delectable Wine

Dusty yellow flowers, smoke, crushed stone, nectarine and hints of hazelnut lift up from the 2018 Etna Bianco Gamma, creating a deeply alluring display. It’s soft and textural, balancing ripe orchard fruits against hints of sour green citrus and salty mineral tones. Notes of young mango and peach linger, along with a subtle buzz of residual acidity, all under a pretty air of inner florals. This highly enjoyable Carricante is showing beautifully already, but it should also excel for a number of years in a cold cellar. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021)

Etna Bianco Carricante 2019

Comparing two Etna whites in the shadow of the great mountain itself.
Fresh & mineral with some shy yellow stone fruit, a pinch of dried herbs, a healthy dose of salty freshness but overall, the mineral stony fresh character dominates.
On the palate this is round and at first, fruity, and then the spicy, herby minerality cuts through, followed by racy acidity. This has loads of character and interesting edginess. You can have this solo & meditate with it, listening to the waves crashing in, but this really begs for a swordfish steak!

Etna Bianco DOC Superiore Carricante 2019

Delectable Wine

The 2019 Etna Bianco is incredibly floral and pretty, with sweet white flowers and citrus-laced orchard fruits. Soft, ripe and soothing, yet contrasted by bright acids. Notes of pear and apricot taper off to a salty twang toward the close. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2021) — a month ago
