Bedrock Wine Co.

California Syrah 2019

Continuing the first, benchmarking tastings of Bedrock’s 2019s, the California Syrah is fantastic and at $25 direct from Bedrock, it may even surpass that. It blends some great vineyards from up and down the state into a wine full of berry jam, briar patch, smooth tannins, and some florals from a touch of Viognier. Saturday night taste at Tuesday night prices with aging potential! — 6 years ago

Silver Eagle Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Thanksgiving wine number 7. The last of the celebration before we switched to beer! I will tell you that most of the reason why we opened this one was because it was on the counter and we were talking about Napa Valley experiences. Next thing you know, the cork on this one is out! Pours a slightly violet color to the glass. Sweet briar patch brambleberry and mint nose. The entry of this wine is medium to full-bodied. Very acidic at first, displaying almost a blood orange zest. The acidity flattens out in the middle, displaying a very robust sweet fruit characteristic. Steel finishes with a lot of acidity and a lot of tannic grip. In all honesty, this one needed to stay in the chiller to rest for a few more years. Why wait? Drinking rather well, although if I had to do it all over again, I would probably decant for about 2 hours before serving, or better yet just wait 3 to 5 years. — 8 years ago

Just need some inner peace 🙃 and beer. Or be prepared to sacrifice. That’s what QPR challenge is for!

My QPR challenge would be to drink the mag of the good stuff, fill the bottle with Charles Shaw and recork. $1,000 says none of my South Texas family would know.

Lol. I’d take that bet. I think if you upgraded to Charles Smith, you’d lock in that bet.

Château Poesia

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Bang on great right out of the bottle. This probably won't reach the potential of the Talbot in the long term, but it's right there ... Now. Also deep and opaque in appearance. Less fruit on the nose. Pepper, briar patch, and a subtle black licorice. This wine seems to already have settled into it's complete incarnation. Of course with it's medium acidity and solid alcohol level, maybe it gets better with age, but pop and pour it now just in case.

Seneca Lake Cabernet Franc 2017

This thing is a lean, mean fighting machine. A little menthol and smoke on the nose, but it is all tart red fruit when it hits the palate. It evolves into a bit more of a savory briar patch on the mid palate, but never gives up on that beautiful acidity. Great spicy finish. We had it with London broil, grilled asparagus, and baked sweet potatoes, and it really sang. — 7 years ago

Old Patch Red Lot# 41 Red Blend 2014

48% Zinfandel, 29% Petite Sirah, 23% Carignane. North Coast. Briar, black currant, raspberry and eucalyptus notes in nose. Blackberry, cassis and later cola and black cherry flavors, fairly tight initially, moderate skin astringency with chewy tannins. Great value in an everyday red. — 8 years ago

Oh yeah. This is my jam. Just gorgeous wine. Viogner really lift the aromatics into another level. Spice, pepper, cherry briar patch, subtle perfume, a meadow of wildflowers. As it opens a creamy silky core of ripe red fruit and lush tannins seduce the mouth like a femme fatale. The prickly acids give it a balanced backbone. Delicious long finish with acid burst. Almost sweet, not sappy. Like a great dark comedy. — 10 years ago

Wine Spectator #7 Wine of the Year 2010. Scents of raspberries and blueberries intertwined with briar patch spices. Ripe raspberry and blueberry flavors persist. A hint of creamy oak and a silky and refined texture with a juicy character. Juicy acidity and integrated tannins smooth the finish. — 5 years ago

Brasserie 19 Pinot Noir 2014

Slightly dusty nose that dissipates in time, revealing a fruit laden caramel.

Briar patch, alpine fruit, hints of cotton candy. The acidity after 6 years is still holding, singing brightly and long. Medium bodied, and well worth it.
A worthy wine - and a good one to ponder future civility with. Decency may have a chance here again. :)

Green brined peppers and wow. With just a touch of sour cherry. Sugar and more green pepper. All nose. Palette is sweet, with an attack of briar patch berries. Softens through the mid but finishes with greasy tannins. What a funky cool wine. Bravo. — 8 years ago

Château D'Arlay

Macvin du Jura Savagnin Chardonnay

Weirdly wonderful like so many Jura elixirs. I believe this is a kind of fortified Chard, definitely oxidized. There's the suggestion of pumpkin and the briar patch. A wonderful soft and round aperitif. One of a kind and worth a visit — 11 years ago
