Calendes Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2017

Biodynamic Croze, typical of the appellation. Ripe and juicy black fruits, notes of pears, peaches, a hint of wood. The body is supple, with a nice gourmet volume. Roundness, suppleness and beautiful freshness. The finish deploys fairly characteristic minty and peppery notes, violet. Great pleasure.

Les Eygats Lieu-dit Cornas Syrah 2014

A rather lively purple color with distinct ruby undertones. Big ripe blackberries and bacon on the nose. Raspberry, fresh herbs, and smoke are present with just enough funk to say hello. Slight touch of olives and earth.

100% Syrah from Cornas may not be what you call a summer sipper but this can withstand a slight chill. There’s plenty of power and character here with smooth tannins and slightly bitter acidity. Very masculine and bigger than I expected. Full bodied and quite generous.

Blue and black fruits dominate the palate, mostly with blueberry cobbler and black currant shining. Stewed plums and licorice combine nicely with the sage and fresh herbs. Pepper and smoke on the longish finish. Cornas almost always delivers and this is no exception.

Clos Diconne Ladoix Pinot Noir 2017

Nice Burgundy wine, rather light. A nose of tangy red fruits typical of Pinot Noir (raspberry, redcurrant). Wonderfully conducted vinification, bringing slightly woody aging notes. The body is full, harmoniously blending primary and tertiary notes. The finish is developed, nothing more.

Montmain Chablis Premier Cru Chardonnay 2018

First time having Montmain. Lemon curd, lime zest, tons of minerality, precisely driven mouthfeel, salinity, lots of lees contact, mouth filling acidity and a long finish. — 6 days ago

Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

One of the best for under $50. Aubry is rich, round, deep, austere. Smells like cinnamon spiced red apple skin. Chalky, lemon, saline mouth. — 5 days ago

Physically Distanced 🚧 but Socially Close 🤗 dinner, our first in +8mo. Following the reasonable NY State dining regulations, seated and masked. While a new experience, it was well worth it to see our core group again.

Les Perrières Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 1993

7 / 9 of these have been ridiculoso. This was awesome. Still bright. Blind I would have guessed 2011 or 2010. That’s how good it was. I know he stores them cold and doesn’t release them until they’re ready, but why don’t more Domaines do this? I am sure he gasses them a bit but it works. Damn good. — 10 days ago

Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2017

Wow! Great Chassagne Villages in this 2017 vintage. Discrete nose at first that opens up nicely after to Lemon zest, white fruit and slight minerality that also carries to the delicious palate, good tension, some nice richness brought by a touch of oak that is subtle and balanced with the rest, awesome success in this generous 2017 vintage it seems. 93 for this villages for sure.

Wow!
