This is one of those few (and I do mean few) wines where it tastes better with #coravin than #uncorked With Coravin it has a lovely bouquet full of white flowers, citrus and hints of oak. Uncorked it just gets all acidic and looses the delicate complexity. Still, that being said...it is one of the better white #Rioja that I have tried and I’ve tried plenty. Wine 2 of 4 of the second Total Wine holiday world tour. This wine is 100% Viura, or Macabéo, a Spanish white grape grown primarily to supplement Cava sparkling wines or to use in blends. The Viura grape makes up to 90% of the still white wine produced in Rioja. It produces a medium acid wine meant to consume young. I drank this as an aperitif - not knowing how sweet it would run. On the eyes: Golden yellow, bright, light stain, med- tears. No gas/floc.
On the nose: Lemon rind, floral notes, and granite with a slight bitter nuttiness. Med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med tannin, med acid, med alcohol, creamy and round. Muscadine, ripe peach, and clementine that finishes with mineralty. A bit of a cloying finish however - more so as it warms. — 5 years ago
This is a friend's #limited production (only 500 bottles) 100% #Viura #Macabeo from #aragon that has some of the characteristics and quality of a #whiteburgundy it has a little oak and is quite nice. The label is misleading and could be more elegant and not so psychedelic — 6 years ago
#Viura a little richer and rounder than I remember. Starts out briny with melon, finishes with some pineapple/tangerine. Nice texture. — 4 years ago
