Miguel Torres

Mas La Plana Penedès Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Really dense and structured in a beautiful sense. Oaky leaves, twigs and green acorns on the nose; black cherries, violets, cloves and peppercorn. Oak tannins lap the lower sides of your tongue and teeth. Tar, crushed violet, black currant, cranberry, graphite: yes and more please! Thought I should get on this one sooner, but could age a while too! .

Ca' Di Mat

Andrinal Grenache 2017

Very pale ruby lightly cloudy color. Almost seems like a Rosé. Very Pinot Noirish #Garnacha #Spain #spanishwine with Coravin it didn’t express all its nuances. Once uncorked it had fine red fruit and cedar and sweet smoke aromas and flavors. Interesting. — 2 years ago

Ribera Del Duero Tempranillo 2014

Deep purple hue with some garnet. Extraction on the glass and medium-plus tearing. Nose offers black fruit, such as fresh blackberries, black cherry, and currant notes; also molasses, clove, spice, cured meat, and vegetal notes. Tartness and acidity on the palate, lending balance. Also strong tannins with anise and dusty leather notes on the palate. Vintage 2014. 15% ABV. #aalto #riberadelduero #riberadelduerowine #tintofino #spanishwine #oldworld #oakagedwine #meseta #winewednesday #winedownwednesdays — 3 years ago

Marqués de Murrieta

Ygay Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 1970

1970 Marques de Murrieta Ygay Reseva

50-year old wine. Drinking an old wine is adventurous and exciting. Upon opening, it was clear from the aroma and color that the wine was still alive! We could still taste the remaining fruits supported by the good balance of acidity. The wine went downhill after two glasses. With social-distancing in place, it was a quiet night but a wonderful moment tasting its history.

Cuatro del Cuatro Graciano 2018

This vintage is the best to date. Very restrained and keeping a medium body and high acidity. The aromas are of light toast, cocoa powder and red ground pepper. #graciano #parker #navarra #spain #spanishwine — 3 years ago

Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2005

13 years in and still a joy (with a good bit of life left if you want to hold). Aromas of jammy black cherry and bacon fat. Lush cherry and blueberry backed with licorice and mocha, moderate buoying acidity and still-firm tannins. Yum! #tintadetoro #toro #spanishwine — 5 years ago

Atalier Rías Baixas Albariño 2019

Pure electricity! Although a bit more jagged, this Albariño has concentration that trends toward Sketch. Acid heads should appreciate the cut that this citrus bomb asserts with heaps of lemon, lime zest, grapefruit and golden melon. There’s an underlying component of wet stone and white flower aromas that compliment the briny, sea salt subtleties on the nose and palate...hallmarks of benchmark Albariños. This wine screams for a bowl of mussels, charred octopus and an ocean breeze. Good stuff.

Bodegas Felix Callejo

Crianza Selección de Viñedos de la Familia Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2005

Day 3: Heavy mushrooms framed by sage and cedar, with chamomile and pork fat. There is persimmon, nutmeg, dried grapes, tar, dark raisin bread, tobacco leaf, and poppy seed. This thing was an unwieldy wooden baton on Saturday night; a real leather daddy. It has since opened into a lumberjack in a leather tunic felling a large birch near a meadow of scorched wildflower. He’s sweating, and lightly peppered. Grilled apple, eel skin, dried black currant, dried roses, rawhide, marinated plum, and a tart persistence that is neither graphite, or smoke, but something similar with a dry-rubbed saline-sweetness in the mix. Delicious! Took forever, and I knew it was a bad idea to open so young, but we did it! #callejo #riberadeldueronothing #riberadelduero #NoSpainNoGain #spanishwines #spanishwine #FelixCallejo #bigredwines — 5 years ago
