Deep ruby color. Pronounced aromas of violets and lilies, fresh black fruit (blueberries, blackberries and black cherries) and hints of vainilla and cedar. On the palate it is juicy and fresh with medium acidity, medium(+) fine grained ripe tannin and medium(+) body. The finish is medium(+) and slightly sweet of ripe delicious fruit. The taster for Robert Parker only gave it 90+ but I believe that he is diverging further and further away from what the wine collector and wine consumer really enjoy and is scoring very subjectively based on his own personal preference for Burgundy and Jura wines. In the context of new world wines and Argentina and Malbec, I find this wine fresh and perfectly ripe and with a controlled oak presence and a very solid effort to transmit the terroir of the La Consulta sub-region. #catena #catenazapata #argentina #malbec #mountainwine — 3 years ago

Tar, blackberry, gum Arabic, dark rye loaf with caraway, cedar wrapped tobaccos, baked artichoke, baked black currant, mussel shells in beef broth, broken pencils and rosemary sprig. Really a steak bouquet beckoning. Chocolate-y palate with graphite on aged parchment, seared thyme, baked cassis, warm black and blue berries, burnt black currant and black poppyseed. I like this. Toasty plum and rye with cedar hinting at mascarpone-mint, boasting bright blueberry, dry blackberry and raisin-currant melange; withered hibiscus. Decidedly grape-y on the nose and into a mouthful of red currant, dried cranberries, green tea, pencil, cinnamon bark, savory, plus a salted black plum, and baked cranberry. This one has had oxygen exposure for 7 days, but is still wound up. Hold this one for a ten year minimum in my opinion. It was good yesterday, but better today. It shall not live to see tomorrow.
