Juicy and ladsting. Good Taste of #Etna. — 9 years ago
Don't be fooled by the recent rush of French wines to grace my palette. Those who know me know that I like to keep a Toscana or a Brunello around for good measure. But then @Kyle Harvey put the hard sell on Etna wines so I gave it a shot. From this point on, I will forever be on the lookout for more. The volcanic terroir and sun soaked mountainside make for the perfect climate to produce an exceptional wine. Comprised of 80% Mascalese and 20% Cappucio, the wine is remarkably well structured with loads of nuance. Fruits abound and silky tannins make this #Etna a banger. — 9 years ago

not bad, but not unforgettable. Average #Etna. #averageSicily — 10 years ago
One of the marquis producers on Mount Etna, Benanti's Stella della Contessa is their flagship red, made mostly of Nerello Mascalese (80%) and the rest Nerello Cappuccio. This has some age being a 2004, but still shows plenty of fruitful youth with a dose.of tertiary. Drink this now but it should round out with another 2-3 years of age. Plenty of fruit, the tannins are fully integrated and silky. There is a slight bitter note that sticks out, and not exactly like a ripe blood orange, it reminds me more of menthol. #etna #sicily #benanti — 10 years ago
I find myself time and again drawn to anything different that I have never tried from Sicily, especially Etna. Here we have an excellent Etna Bianco of superb quality for $25. White and yellow fruits, a tinge of salinity, and loads of minerality and freshness. High altitude, cool climate in style from just north of the equator? Say what!?! #mtetnawine #etna #volcanowine #sicily #tenutadefissina #fessina — 10 years ago
Past peak. Off balance with extremely high abv. Some interesting secondary notes that were quite faint. #passopisciaro #nerellomascalese #etna #mtetnawine #scicily #ctbucklinwine — 9 years ago

A mouthwatering #nerellomascalese, that gem grown on Mt. #Etna, tart cherries, fresh herbs, mountain flowers. — 10 years ago

A well made wine with some interesting notes. Not too far off from warm climate #pinotnoir #nerellomascalese #etnarosso #etna #sicily #ctbucklinwine — 10 years ago
Lovely and easy to drink! Bright soft fruit - orange blossom, Meier lemon - and flowers. Sweet essence but a dry wine. Perfect with Pollo Amalfitano with lemon and thyme on a lovely spring evening. #carricante #italy #sicilia #etnabianco #etna — 10 years ago
Showing much better than the 2012. Color was vibrant. Great mix of fresh blue and red fruit as well as white pepper and herbs. Palate was restrained and well structured with a hint of sourness. More drying than unctuous. Fine finish. #passopisciaro #etna #mtetnawine #sicily #italy #nerellomascalese #ctbucklinwine — 9 years ago
Not sure this day would ever happen but alas, the magic of Etna and the magic of Cave Ox in Solicchiata, we decided that it was time - and on a day when the producer invited us over to join him at his table, we got to experience this living, ever evolving tribute to Etna, coming from 100+ year old prephylox vines from 910 m ASL from the "Grand Contrada" of Barbabaecchi. Not to mention the kick ass 2014 vintage. It was intoxicatingly fragrant with earthy red fruits erupting from the glass, dense, concentrated, complex and constantly evolving flavors with spice, leather, and seductive dark cherry, and a dreamingly long mouthfeel that lingered and danced along the palette. Lava in a bottle. What a memory. Thanks Frank 🍷🌋 #frankcornelissen #etna #CaveOx — 9 years ago

My favorite of the night - ungrafted 90 year old vines from 600 meters - tasting notes read; darkness and elegance - could be a young barbaresco #frankcornelissen #etna — 10 years ago
