Doing our part to make the world a more delicious place.
The 2005 Latour is a huge wine predestined for long-term aging. Noticeably deep in color, it has a showstopping bouquet with intense black fruit, graphite and touches of dried blood and tobacco as it considers moving into its secondary phase. But that's going to be slow coming...it's in no hurry. The palate is medium-bodied and unapologetically classic in style. I notice this bottle is a little grainy in texture, the salinity perhaps heightened as it enters adulthood. The finish has a tangible sense of tension, but it remains backward and swarthy. Immense. Tasted at Woo Cheong Tea House dinner organized by Paulo Pong. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)

The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico opens with an herbal thrust that gives way to dried violets, lavender and crushed blackberries. It is sleek and racy in feel with lifted textures and tart wild berry fruits offset by zesty acidity. It tapers off long and staining, lifted by a bump of residual acidity as notes of red plum leave a pleasantly tart sensation. I quite like the energy here and expect that the 2018 will enjoy a broad and open drinking window. (Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2024)

The 1959 Latour is a vintage that I have drunk many times. It contains a payload of irresistible and quite precocious red fruit on the nose with blood orange, cedar and a touch of thyme, beautifully defined. The palate has exquisite balance, poised yet powerful, with a multi-dimensional, profound finish that is one of the smoothest-textured you will find on any Latour vintage. Absolutely divine. Tasted at Arbor restaurant in Hong Kong. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)

The 2006 Latour shows some reduction on the nose, although it soon blows away to reveal pencil-shaving infused black fruit, wild hedgerow and light cassis aromas. The palate offers up a mixture of red and black fruit. This has a firm grip with an uncompromising backbone. Dense yet refined, it is refreshingly saline toward the finish, yet there are a few hard edges to be addressed. Tasted blind from double magnum at a 20-year retrospective at the château. The 2022 Vino Rosso Munaloss is bright, focused and sculpted. Sweet red fruit, sage, mint and blood orange abound in this super-expressive wine. Exuberant yet classically built, the 2022 has fine energy and tons of class. This is a fabulous entry-level offering. $20.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2024) — 11 days ago
The 2015 Marrano, an equal-parts blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is a total pleasure on the nose, with a seductive mix of violets, mint and crushed blueberries and cherries. This is juicy in character, with racy acidity that enlivens its core of ripe wild berry fruits. Salty mineral tones and hints of balsamic spice saturate the palate. The 2015 tapers off with a pleasantly bitter tinge, leaving a resonance of dark chocolate and mentholated freshness. The Marrano is the value score from the Vignalta portfolio. Released late, it promises a more mature yet still wonderfully lively experience. (Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2024)

The 1999 Latour has a dark garnet color with little aging on the rim. The nose is closed initially and demands coaxing, eventually revealing blackberry, cedar and light pencil-shaving aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, displaying some secondary notes of clove, white pepper and a distinct earthiness that comes through on the finish. [Post-script: this is one of the few vintages I identified correctly!] Tasted blind from double magnum at a 20-year retrospective at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)

The 2009 Latour has an open and generous bouquet: a mixture of red and black fruit and touches of graphite and loam. This vintage displays a light marine/brine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a firm grip and superb balance. This is very focused, with impressive salinity on the finish that lingers nicely. This is an extraordinarily beautiful Latour. Tasted blind from double magnum at a 20-year retrospective at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)

The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato blossoms in the glass with a decadent bouquet that blends crushed violet candies, spiced blood orange and dried blueberries. This is silky smooth, nearly creamy in feel, with a dense wave of ripe red berry fruits contrasted by a bitter tinge of dark, dark chocolate. Despite its size (17% alcohol), a core of zesty acidity maintains amazing energy and freshness as the 2017 finishes dramatically long and intense, leaving a staining of tart wild berry fruit to linger. Sweet herbs, tobacco and black olive give way to mentholated blackberry as the 2022 Primitivo Porcospino opens in the glass. Creamy and round, with balancing acidity and depths of ripe dark fruit, the 2022 finishes long and pleasantly chewy with a bitter twang and tart wild berry thrust. $25.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous March 2024) — 4 days ago
