Walla Walla Valley

French Creek Vineyard Mourvedre Blend 2016

One of the most interesting bottles of Washington wine I’ve had in a long time. Has all of the black pepper & powerful dark fruit you look for in Mourvèdre, but an elegant lightness on the body. Aromatics are on point and powerful. Loved this bottle. — 6 days ago

Walla Walla Valley Merlot 2012

This just keeps getting better with age. So glad we waited 3 years to open our second bottle. Lovely Merlot. Some coffee, herbs, dark cherry. Drinking perfect right now but could still hold for a bit longer. — 7 days ago

Nice Malbec. Even good the next day. Nice balance of pepper and dark fruit. Could still hold this one for a little longer. — 11 days ago

McClellan Estate Vineyard Petit Verdot 2013

Very nice right now. Berry nose, hint of chocolate and something else I can’t put my finger on. Well rounded for a Petit Verdot, nice and smooth once open for a bit. Nicely done. — 2 days ago

Rediviva of the Stones Syrah Blend 2013

Intensely smoky, ashy, minerally nose. In the mouth it’s intense and, unlike a lot of broad-textured wines from the Rocks District, it’s quite compact in feel. Dense, minerally, savory, but with a core of dark cherry fruit. Initially quite peppery (in the alcoholic heat sense—which was odd given that it’s less than 14%) air time helped the finish smooth out. The finish is long and savory, with a high pH feel. — 24 days ago

Amavi Cellars

Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2015

I am always eager to uncork a high end Washington Syrah! 😺🍷 I had been cellaring this bottle, the “last man standing” from my visit to the winery a few years back. This bottle did not disappoint. It is full of the rich plum fruits layered over that body so peculiar to Washington Syrah, this sort of pleasant mushroom tinge. I realize that may not sound palatable, but once tasted, it really lights up that “eureka!” center of the oenophile brain; imagine your first tastee if the Rutherford Dust tannic structure. Amaviis among my favorite Walla Walla wineries, and this Syrah is perfect for sipping with honored guests or old friends 😼 — 9 days ago

Cailloux Vineyard Syrah 2012

Intriguing. Nutty on the nose. Still good but the end is nigh. Doesn’t taste like it would benefit from more ageing — 11 hours ago
