Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, floral spice and smoky cedar notes, aged 12 months in 60% new barrels. On the palate flavors of fresh blackberry and black cherry with cacao, tobacco, licorice and smoky spice. Fine grainy tannins, well balanced on long finish, ending with fruit, cedar, smoke and earthy mineral character. Very nice, will age well but wait a few more years to really enjoy! — a year ago

Still so vibrant and articulate at 13 years old… This field blend of 2nd/3rd choice selections is, in excellent harvest, better than 98% of other vineyards best first choice barrels. 46 Merlot… 31CS, 15 PV, 8% cab franc. 10. Quite remarkable for a 46 year old bottle. The cork was completely saturated and brittle and came out in multiple pieces. After smelling at first I was sure that the bottle was corked and the wine may be vinegar. But the taste is still vinbrant, and if I had to guess I would have said that it’s half its age at most. Still a rich burgundy color, vibrant acidity, a little red fruit, eucalyptus and some of the tertiary notes you would expect. Tonights wine is the 2019 La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou. Saint-Julian Bordeaux Blend 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, chocolate, spice, black pepper, minerality and earth.

On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, green bell pepper, black pepper, spice, vanilla, minerals and dark rich earth.

This is a full bodied wine well balanced medium + acidity and medium + mouthcoating firm grippy tannins that taks you into a long black fruit woody finish.
