Pleiades California White wine

Surprisingly good. Starts out with pleasant reduction, white flowers and hay, plus a bunch of tingling minerality. Fruit is mostly citrus wi the some just ripe stone fruit. The palate has a great acid and a better viscosity then expected, without lees and with a touch of oxidation. Great stuff, chardonnay-Riesling blend for structure-florals with something else for body, if I had to guess, but could be way off. — 2 days ago

Love Language Glowing Red 2019

Yowza! Hardy featured one of his patented Zoom jazz/wine parties and this wine is rocking. 55 % Shake Ridge Mourvèdre, Barbera, snd at least 25% Free-run Chenin Blanc. Light body, lively acidity, crushable round tannns, and a long sexy finish. The aroma attack is boysenberry, tart Michigan cherries, and barnyard garrique. Hardy’s wines are like nothing I’ve tried before… Half Cru Bojo and half funky Rhône… versatile with complex food flavors and fun with just an empty glass. Well done. — 19 days ago

The Rare Wine Co. Charleston Sercial Special Reserve Madeira

He convinced me to give college football a chance, and I convinced him to do the same for Madeira. Bright, burnt orange peel and walnut skin, toasted pecan, a tad briny, toffee. Shockingly dry for a Madeira, even a sercial. Probably better paired with savory fare than king cake. — 16 days ago

Mendocino Carignan

The label had me at “Carignan”; Sandlands version has me drooling at the prospects of this varietal. Missing lots of bad things, (thus the brand name “without” in French, non?) but also sourced from dry farmed old vines (ESG to the max). Dense dark red, high pigment extraction. Fresh cherry, raspberry aroma, slightly fizzy mouthfeel (no added sulfites, remember). Moderate skin astringency on finish but nice red fruit flavors. Not bad but not for aging, drink them young. On the tannic side for what might otherwise be a light fresh wine. Reminds me of that cute kid trying too hard to act all grown up, and can’t quite pull it off yet, but it has potential in future iterations. Keep them coming! Then again, an hour after opening, it drinks well, all grown up. More patience on my part, perhaps — 16 days ago

Gambrels of the Sky California Grenache 2018

This was a good Bedrock and the most interesting thing was the story on the back label. I’ve been more disappointed with Bedrock than happy with their wines. I’ve stopped buying them but still have a bunch and hoping they maybe need more aging to come around, we’ll see. — 4 days ago

Semdawg Yeah! Red 2020

Another new release from Hardy. Vinous lists it as Red… but it’s 76% old vine skin fermented Semillon and 24% old vine Chenin Blanc. Powerful stuff here! The wine is round, almost viscous and honeyed, but bone dry. Notes of pineapple, ripe pear juice, and Unfiltered cider. The wine elevates from the glass as it warms…and snuggles into all those hidden places in your mouth. Simply perfect with complex Indian vegetarian dishes like Chana Marsala and Dal. Very pleased with all of Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah’s releases… — 19 days ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2019

Surprisingly refined and restrained expression of Pinot noir. Paired with polenta and chicken not too overly seasoned to hide the subtlety of the wine. — 3 days ago
